"Oh, Lily! We're so proud of you!" Mother hugged Lily, she was crying and laughing at the same time. Lily draped her arms around Mother's shoulders, the letter still in her hand. Father placed his hand on Lily's shoulder
"We always knew there was something about you" Father nodded. That hurt. Was there not 'something' about me? "Petunia, congratulate your sister" Father gestured to Lily who was being smothered by Mother. I step forward, Lily's face peaks from under Mother's arms
"Congratulations" I smile weakly
"Thank you" Lily grins, untangling herself from mother "Even though I won't see you as much, we'll still be best friends" I trusted Lily. She would never lie to me and her statement made me think of our other memories together. Bike riding, dolls, tea parties. It would all stay the same…
September quickly came around. I had helped Lily pick out her brooms, her books, and her wand… But now it's happening. The platform was crowded with people and animals. I'd tripped over at least seven unattended suitcases.
"Keep up, Petunia!" Mother had called out, fretting over Lily "You have your wand? Robes? Are all your bags here? One, two, three, four… We're missing one! Petunia! Have you seen-" Mother's eyes jump around the platform
"It's here" Father chuckles, holding up the suitcase.
"Crisis averted! Now… Good luck, my darling" Mother kisses Lily on the forehead, then the right cheek and the left and finally scoops her into a massive hug "I'm going to miss you!" Lily laughs, turning to Father
"Study hard, Little Lily" He pats her on the shoulder. Lily turns to me.
"Bye" I reply gruffly
"Bye" Lily smiles sympathetically "I'll miss you" Lily grins
"Me too" I finally hug her, but I'm not smiling. Then she's off onto the train and waving goodbye.
