Disclaimer: Don't own Detective Conan
Wrote this last July, and then realized that that would be a dumb time to post a Christmas fic. Now that the holidays are fully in session, I'm posting it.
She sits on the floor of her room, crying. The room is dark, as is the sky outside. The clock on the shelf ticks away, the only sound apart from the crying.
She is crying for many reasons. Conan is missing. He had been missing for a few days now. She wouldn't be quite as worried if it weren't for the occasional rapport of gunfire echoing through the city. That morning, December 24, Inspector Shiratori had stumbled upon a hornet's nest of vile beings. Her father had run out of the apartment, yelling at her to stay inside, stay away from the windows.
It is now Christmas Eve. So she cries, worried for the missing Conan, worried for her fighting father, and worried most of all for Shinichi. Stupid idiot mystery-loving amazing wonderful Shinichi.
The clock ticks time away. She hasn't heard any gunfire for a while. She wonders if it is all over. Slowly she gets up and moves towards the window to look down into the street. There are no cars. Most windows are dark. Most people are probably asleep at this late hour.
The clock starts to chime, almost masking the sound of the front door opening.
Ding.
She starts, her mind immediately jumping to the worst-case scenario. It is a bad guy, a killer, come to get rid of her.
Ding.
Or perhaps it is one of the police, come to tell her of her father's death. Perhaps Sato, or Takagi.
Ding.
Perhaps Sato or Takagi are dead.
Ding.
Whoever it is can't possibly be trying to sneak up on her. So they mustn't be a bad guy.
Ding.
Maybe it's her father, returned after the fighting's done.
Ding.
She slowly opens her door. The light is too dim for her to tell for sure. "Dad?"
Ding.
The figure starts. "Ran?"
Ding.
Her breath hitches. That's not her father.
Ding.
"Shinichi?"
Ding.
He runs forward and grabs her in a tight hug. She hugs him back, taking in his scent, taking in his Shinichi-ness.
Ding.
His grin is wide as he looks straight into her eyes, nothing but love showing.
Ding.
"Merry Christmas Ran."
She cannot believe he is here, now, at this very time. She has no idea what to say. So she says the only thing possible to say.
"Merry Christmas Shinichi."
Reviews, as always, are loved forever.
