I'm so sorry I disappeared, everyone! D: School's started up again, and it's slightly more demanding than I anticipated—it's nothing I can't handle, but I've been feeling rather hectic lately, which does not make for a good writing environment. I'll try to work harder at getting things accomplished over the weekend, but first I'll have to learn that writing a little and not a lot won't kill me.

Onto the important things at hand. I regularly follow the KH Drabble community on liveJournal, but I don't post anything there because I'm pretty sure the uploading process there is going to kick my butt. This week, though, I managed to pull something together, so I thought it would be fun if I posted it here instead as my apology. :D As always, read and enjoy, and if you feel a need to review, go for it.

Challenge 271: Metamorphosis

Title: Nothing but Darkness

Word Count: 244

Notes: I'm actually not entirely happy with this, but I like it enough where it is to want to share it. Spoilers for Days... The idea that the data changed Xion has always been fairly cool to me, which inspired this prompt...

Nothing But Darkness

The new data is a cold, foreign presence in Xion's mind, controlling what she sees and thinks and does while slowly detaching its host from its body. The part of her that remains aware feels it under her skin as it courses through her veins, her bones, her soul, analyzing everything it can detect in its environment for openings and advantages while harmlessly purchasing the sea-salt ice cream bait that will allow the program to lure Roxas in.

This new code is not unlike the Superior who planted this inside of her, who has planned this darkest moment in her non-life since before it began.

She wants to scream, to find Riku or Axel—she does not dare call to Roxas for fear of setting the end into motion before he is ready—but the data will not allow for any unauthorized movement outside Twilight Town. For all the times she has felt alone, she's never truly been this alone.

Maybe this is what it's like to be a larva trapped in a chrysalis, waiting for the glorious moment when it can finally achieve what it had been working toward its entire, simple life…

Except that this is not a metamorphosis Xion wants to endure; already she has been turned into something she never wanted to be, and there is nothing beautiful waiting for her on the other side of this forced isolation—nothing but true Darkness and more seclusion when the program finally runs its course.
