Hey, guys, this is darkninja336 with another post (My friend posted the other one for me. See "Llevame Contigo".). So, we were given a writing assignment in our AP English class and I didn't know what to write about until I went home and saw a Fullmetal Alchemist volume sitting on my desk (Volume 5 for those of you who were wondering). So guess what I wrote on! The genre was supposed to be metaphysical poetry and I kinda failed at doing that…BUT! A beautiful FMA poem was born! Or at least I think so…Hope you enjoy it! (The poem's in blank verse btw.)

Love and Equivalent Exchange

What had drove them to such horrific extremes?

What justified breaking the law for their schemes?

What fueled their innocent intentions?

What drove them to forbidden practices?

All they wanted was to see her smile once more.

Their mother's love drove them to that door

Of no return. She had been taken so young,

The man they call "father" never came back.

Was it worth a leg and a little brother

To exchange selfishly for the soul of another?

Was it worth the arm you gave to bring him back?

The blood you both spilled for a dead end?

Now back on your feet, you are sentenced to roam,

The both of you wander, having destroyed your home.

You let the flames devour your mistakes,

Turned on your steel heel and vowed never to return

Though you deny a Holy Maker, struck by harsh reality,

You say your punishment came from a Divine Deity.

Love is all that had been on their minds,

But what good is it if it causes such misfortune?

From sinful acts, even if done in love,

Expect divine retribution from a mighty Hand above.

"To gain something, something of equal value must be lost…"

"…But what could equal the value of a human soul?"
