He was going to come back to her. He had promised that little maid with the kiss, and the last words he had ever said to her. If she was waiting for him, and somehow he knew she was, he would return to her. He would endure until one day, one day in the future he was at her side once more.

But reality is rather cruel, and as such wouldn't allow the boy to keep the promise with himself.

Slowly dreams were crushed, faith and hope drained away and endurance tested and trampled on by enemies. At last, he was left with only one thing. The desire to see her. To see Italy one last time.

"I want to see you. I want to see you." The words echoed in his mind, or maybe he was speaking them. He couldn't tell. He was confused by the fact that he was being ripped apart, becoming smaller and smaller as all those ho had joined him on his quest for greatness pulled away.

"I want to see you."

Who was that? What was going on? Just now the Empire had heard another voice join his own. Slightly deeper but still childish like his. "Who's there?" He called out.

"I want to see you!" The person was crying. Or was it him? He was so confused.

"Who's there?" He asked again, louder.

"You're here." The voice was very close now, and the young Empire jumped.

"What the-" he began before noticing a boy in front of him. No, more like his reflection. And when the two locked eyes, something just clicked. "So I won't be able to hold her hand anymore, huh?"

"You will."

"I can't keep the promise. I can't stop her from crying then?"

"You can."

"But I'm dead!" He wanted to hit the other him. If this guy was here, then he was dead. Or he might as well be.

"You're not. Because you," the boy touched his chest over his heart, "Are here." He didn't know why but he found he was also touching the other guy's chest in the same spot.

"I will endure for you. I will keep your promise to her. I will not forget to hold her hand." The boy stopped shook his head and then restarted, "Actually, it should be we will endure together, We will keep the promise, we will never forget to hold her hand. After all, we are exactly the same."

Then the boy smiled, and sighing the young empire realized he couldn't fight against himself. He nodded his head and woke up…

Germany woke up. He wasn't sure why, but he knew he shouldn't be here in the middle of nowhere. He had to go be next to someone's side. Stretching he tried to think of where he should be. But he couldn't recall. Oh well, maybe if he just wandered around for a bit?

But wandering didn't help him find his destined place. Although he did find a place, and he stayed there.

At some point he became comfortable at this place called home. At some point the need to be somewhere got a little less urgent as anger and hatred and war became bigger and more important to his people. At some point, he got mixed up in all of this due to his serious attitude when it came to his people. At some point, he was wondering in a forest and came across a box of tomatoes…

A/N: So I wrote this... around the time I should have been doing an SE fanfic. After hearing HRE's Marukaite Chikyuu I was so inspired I just knew I had to write about him. Or should I say what happened to him. I hope it doesn't suck, because honestly I have no idea if I like how it turned out. I can't decide at all...

Oh and TRUTH is almost done (I'm so slow *cries*) I just wanted to research some stuff first and then... well. That's another story which I might tell you when I DO upload that chapter.
