A word

I don't own Star Trek, I want to, but I don't. This is told from Uhura's Point of view. It's a simple one-shot, and my favorite part of the movie considering how easily Uhura got her way with Spock.

As I stood there amongst an anxious crowd of cadets waiting to hear, no….Verify that I was assigned to the Enterprise, I contemplated how much easier the relationship that Spock and I have will be so much easier to uphold on the Star Ship and him as my commanding officer, rather than him as an instructor and me as a cadet. No more rules forbidding him and I to engage in a romantic relationship, and no more paranoia about the favoritism, that he wasn't even capable of having….

"Uhura: U.S.S Farragut."I heard the instructor stating continuing her list. Surely I had just heard wrong, unfortunately seeing Gaila spin around with a bright white grin contrasting nicely with her green skin, and her orange hair bounce excitedly as she practically jumped for joy was verification enough. I knew that he was solely responsible for this; he had told me only yesterday that he would be in charge of assigning cadets to Starships, and I had banked way too hard on him placing me on the Enterprise.

I squared my shoulders, and let out a breath of frustration as I stormed through the parade of people, my thoughts zoned in on finding him, and demanding to know what his problem was. My thoughts were momentarily side tracked as I saw Kirk and McCoy headed in the opposite direction of me, Kirk looked sick, and McCoy had the strangest look of determination on his face. I rolled my eyes and shook my head at trying to guess what the two buffoons were possibly up to this time.

My concentration was brought back upon arriving beside Spock who was completely engrossed in the monitor before him. He was aware of my presence but was simply waiting on me to state my purpose in it.

"Commander, a word?"

"Yes Lieutenant?" He asked in a monotone voice.

"Was I not one of your top students?" I questioned.

"Indeed you were." He stated turning away from the monitor and heading for the loading pod gracefully maneuvering around the crowd, I following of course still pressing my argument.

"And did I not, on multiple occasions, demonstrate exceptional aural sensitivity, and I quote 'An unparalleled ability to identify sonic anomalies' in sub-space transmission tests?" I probed.

"Consistently, yes." He answered yet again unnerved my justification, the only apparent change in his actions was that he now faced me.

"And while you were well aware of my unqualified desire to serve on the U.S.S Enterprise, I'm assigned to Farragut." I said through my teeth. If looks could kill came to mind as I stood there glaring at him.

His voice lowered considerably and he spoke to where only I could make out what he was saying. "It was to avoid the appearance of favoritism." Again with favoritism crap, it took everything in me not to roll my eyes.

"No. I'm assigned to the Enterprise." I demanded him. Honestly by this point he wasn't my commanding officer, he was Spock. There was no way that I'm giving up on this, I've wanted it for far too long to just drop it and leave it alone.

He must have seen the determined look that I tightly held on my face. "Yes, I believe you are."

Still somewhat surprised at how easy it had been I had only one logical response. "Thank you." I said. Inwardly I smiled; I hope that I always have that effect on him.
