This is my first time writing for Fairy Tail, so give me some grace. My bro helped me with this a little cause he is totally obsessed with this show and therefore insisted on proofreading it. This won't be very long, but it will have a few chapters. I know there are people out there who get super upset when the characters are OOC (out of character) so I did the best I could to keep them in character. Anyways, enough babbling. On with the show!
Part 1
"I seriously can't believe you two got kicked out of the guild hall for the rest of the day for rough housing!" Lucy exclaimed as she tramped down the street that led to her home.
"The Master did look pretty mad," Happy admitted, hovering over Natsu.
"I know, right! But you shouldn't be mad at Gramps," Natsu said, trailing the Celestial Wizard with Gray and Erza.
Lucy whirled around to face him. "It's not him I'm mad at! It's you two!" she yelled furiously, pointing an accusing finger at Natsu and Gray.
"I have to agree with her. Since you two obviously can't think for yourselves, Master has ordered us to watch over you for the reminder of the day," Erza said with her usual emotionless tone.
"Hey, what's this?" exclaimed Natsu, bending over to pick up an old, faded piece of paper. "It's got weird markings and stuff on it!"
"Mysterious," Happy whispered, looking down at it.
"What!" Lucy yelled. "Let me see it!" She ripped it out of Natsu's grasp and began to observe it.
"Well? What is it?" Gray asked from behind her.
Lucy was silent for a moment as she studied it. Suddenly, she squealed and turned around to the others. "It's a treasure map!" she declared, holding it up in the air.
"What!"
"Aye!"
"Awesome!"
"You can't be serious. Let me see it," Erza said, taking it out of Lucy's hand. "Hmm... It really could be anything..."
Natsu snatched it from her and held it against himself. "I found it, so I get to decide what it is."
"I'm telling you, IT'S A TREASURE MAP!" Lucy exclaimed, waving her arms angrily.
"What if it's not?" Gray asked with a smirk.
"Yeah Lucy. What if it's not?" Happy added, landing on her shoulder.
"Shut up," Lucy growled.
"It does look like one, but it's very old. It's probably outdated," Erza reasoned.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Gray questioned, eyeing Erza suspiciously.
Erza gave an exasperated sigh. "It's already been used."
Lucy and Gray blinked and then began laughing hysterically.
"As if! Who's ever heard of a used treasure map?" Lucy cried, bending in half.
"Your so realistic Erza!" Gray hooted.
Erza rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. "Your both stupid," she quietly retorted.
The two heard her, but before they could retaliate, Natsu said,"You guys! Your never gonna believe this, but Lucy was actually right for once! This is a treasure map!"
"Ouch," Lucy groaned.
"Thanks for the update, Natsu," Gray said, crossing his arms with an exasperated sigh.
"That's great and all, but would you mind telling us where it goes?" Erza asked, only pretending that she was half interested in the whole thing.
"Sure! Glad to see your actually taking an interest in this," Natsu smiled cluelessly.
"I'm thrilled," Erza said with a blank face.
"Oh dear," Happy sighed.
"SPILL!" Lucy yelled in Natsu's face.
"Ok, ok. Don't get excited. Hmm, let's see here. I think it goes somewhere into Magnolia Forest."
"Seriously? Let me see," said Gray, coming alongside Natsu.
"At least I think it's Magnolia Forest. It could be a different forest."
"No, I believe you're right. Weird."
"Aye."
"Then to Magnolia Forest we go!"Lucy shouted.
"Alright! I'll lead since I've got the map. From the directions on this map, I'm judging that we should reach the treasure in about an hour!" Natsu declared.
Three hours later...
"Ugh! How much longer do we have to walk? I thought you said this would only take an hour," Lucy complained, shooting daggers at Natsu with her eyes.
"Gees, it was just a hunch. Besides, how was I supposed to know it would take us through that mud hole?" Natsu defended.
"Maybe by that round blotch on the paper," Gray groaned, pointing to it on the map.
"Oh yeah," Natsu replied, scratching his head. "You know I don't remember seeing that earlier."
"I'm sure you don't. That's why your going to hand the map over to me,"Erza demanded, stepping in front of Natsu and holding out an expectant hand.
"What!" Natsu cried, pressing the worn piece of paper against his chest protectively. "No way! I found it!"
"I know that, but just so you know, you've led us in a full circle."
Lucy, Gray and Happy jaws dropped in horror.
Natsu's eyebrow twitched. "Why didn't you mention this earlier!?" he yelled in her face.
"Because I didn't notice it till now," Erza replied calmly. "Now hand it over, Natsu."
"Not happening!"
"Natsu!"
"I said no!"
"Natsu!" Gray shouted, picking him up by the back of his shirt. "Your acting like a child. Give Erza the map!"
"No!" he yelled, wildly thrashing his limbs in attempt to get away from Gray.
The whole time this little escapade was happening, Lucy stood quietly behind them with Happy worriedly watching the trio from her shoulder. Her arms were crossed in indignation and when her eyebrow started twitching and she decided that she would take matters into her own hands. So, she walked up to Natsu and plucked the map right out of his hand.
"Wha- Lucy?" Natsu sputtered, totally taken by surprise.
Lucy smoothed the map out and then faced the boys. "Ok you two. Erza and I have been given orders to watch over you for the day and to make sure that you stay out of trouble. We plan to stick to our instructions and make sure you both do exactly that."
"I didn't do anything! I was only trying to help," Gray insisted, dropping Natsu.
"We realize that, Gray. Thank you," Erza said. "As for you-"
"Hey! I'm the one who found the map and led us this far and-"
"Forget about the map, Natsu! This is about us. All four of us. We're a team, right?" Lucy asked.
Natsu looked at the ground. "Right."
"We're the strongest team. How can we be strong if we're constantly fighting? I know there is no way we can avoid it completely, but there is way to avoid tiny problems like this. Your probably the most skilled fighter in our team, but that doesn't mean you have control over us. You just want the map because you want prove that. Me and Gray have zero interest in holding the map. Erza only wants it so she can help. You have to let others help you, Natsu. Otherwise, your gonna end up in a garbage alley in the pouring rain."
Natsu kicked a rock and turned his back on the other three. "You go on. I think I'll head back home."
He began walking, but stopped when Happy flew onto his shoulder.
"Natsu. Please don't go."
Natsu lifted a hand and Happy wrapped his little paws around his fingers. "Lucy didn't mean everything she said."
"Lucy," he sighed. He turned back to the group and looked Lucy in the eye. "Your right. I want to prove that I am the strongest, but after everything I've been through, it's a lot more difficult to do than it sounds."
Lucy smiled gently and then shot a look at Happy. "I meant everything I said, but I didn't intend to hurt your feelings. Please forgive me if I did."
Natsu smiled back at her, despite everything she had said. "Sure, Lucy," he replied, knowing he meant it.
Lucy widened her smile in reply.
"Alright, you've let off steam and made up. Can we go find the treasure now?" Gray asked.
Natsu came up to Gray. "You bet. Got the map Erza?"
"Ready when you are," she smirked.
"Then let's go find some treasure, Strongest Team!" Lucy shouted.
30 minutes later...
"Are we there yet?" Gray asked, nearly dragging his feet in the dirt.
"Yeah, my feet hurt," Lucy whined, trailing Gray with Natsu next to her.
"I'm not sure how much longer my feet can take this," Natsu said, kicking a pebble with the end of his sandal.
"I believe it's just up that hill," Erza said, stopping to point up at it.
The three behind her were so tired they didn't notice her stop and as a result, they bumped into her. They shouted in surprise and then fell to the ground.
Erza turned to face them and then put her hands on her hips. "Why are you laying down? The treasure isn't that far. Do you wanna go back or something?" she demanded, failing to notice that she was the reason they had fallen.
"Ugh!" Natsu groaned, slowly standing up. "You better be right."
Erza smiled innocently. "Since when have I ever been wrong?"
"Uh-"
"Don't answer that," she said as her eyes turned dark.
"Chill guys. We're almost there. Just hold it together for a few more minutes," Lucy advised as her and Gray pulled themselves up from the ground.
"I sure hope so," Gray added. "This treasure better be good."
