I wake up in me and my sisters room,they are all fast asleep still, well of course they are they're still too young to go to the reapings me on the other hand though... it's only my first year everyone says I'll be fine it's not true. My name is Rue Stenberg I am 12 years old and i am from district 11. The peace keepers will be coming soon to lead everyone to the square I wake up my four sisters Violette, Aliyah, Darby and my youngest sister Soleil, I get ready I put on my grandmothers old musty yellow dress and I braid my hair in six thin braids, by the time I'm done my sisters and my mom all are ready we head to the square.
On our way there I see my friend Daisy she is sixteen her brother Thresh is eighteen they both wave at us in I wave back when we arrive at the square I head to the back where all the twelve year olds are. Our escort says the words he says every year "Happy Hunger Games, and may the odds be ever in your favour!" I know the odds are not in my favour, I stare at the girls glass bowl I imagine my name in there seven times. He reads the name "RUE STENBERG!" When I hear my name I start to cry,I head for the stage anyways I don't want the peacekeepers to attack me like they did to the boy tribute last year when he tried to run. He calls the next name "THRESH PETRSON" I want to scream I don't want to kill Thresh or any other tributes. We shake hands and head to the justice building.
In the justice building my whole family comes in I hug my sisters my mom and my grandma my dad is working still, we sit there crying for three minutes when the peacekeepers come Violette give me one last hug and says " Rue you have to promise to at least try to come home okay"
I nod to her just before the peacekeepers take her to our mom. right after I head straight to the train with Thresh and as soon as I can I find my room and just lay on the bed hoping to go home in the end.
