I was going to finish this in the orthodontist... and the one time I remembered to bring something to amuse myself with, I was called for my appointment straight away! Gah, the world works in strange ways!
Disclaimer: I was four when the first volume of the manga came out, do you really think I own it?
It was cute, really, how excited Roy got over Christmas. That was what I was thinking as I put the presents in to Roy's green and red stocking, fastened neatly to the end of the bed by alchemy. He was like a small child; loud christmas music blasting throughout the house, singing along as he decorated the christmas tree, baked christmas cake, and hung excessive amounts of lights, tinsel, and decorations in general in and around the house.
Ed, however, had given up on christmas at a very young age, what with getting Al's body back, they had never really had time for holidays or celebration of any kind. He did find fun in watching Roy's happiness and excitement.
So there he was, at 3 am on christmas morning, piling presents into a stocking, and all the while grumbling about how 'Roy had better have gotten him something good for making him wake up this early doing the job of a fat man with a beard' or some nonsense like that.
Once all of the presents were in there, and the stocking looked suitably plump, he climbed back into bed and snaked his arms around his sleeping lover. Falling back asleep, he closed his eyes and waited for morning to come, and along with it, christmas day.
~A few Hours Later~
He woke up to a rustling noise, and looked up with bleary eyes to find Roy sitting on the middle of the bed, emptying out his stocking with excitement. I looked over to the clock, my sleepy eyes taking a moment to focus. 6 am. It was truly uncanny, how on Christmas people always seemed to wake up early. Even Roy, who usually had to be screamed at, hit, and finally pushed onto the floor before he even began to wake, managed to rise at this ungodly hour for Christmas.
"Good morning," I said, making him aware that I was awake, "So, do you like them?" Roy looked up smiling, his bright eyes shining at me over the small mound of gifts in front of him. "Thank you Ed!" He half-squealed, and in that moment, if you didn't know him, then you would never guess he was in the military.
"I have a gift for you too." He said, eyes glinting mischieviously. Crawling across the bed, he started to rummage around in the draw of his bedside table. When he withdrew his hand, he was holding a small, royal blue box. "What's that?" I asked curiously. Then he opened it and I felt my breath catch in my throat and my stomach twist up into knots. Nestled into the silky white fabric was a ring. It was simple, just a plain golden band, but engraved on the inside was a word, a small word that held a lot of meaning. The word was 'forever'.
"Edward," Roy said softly, brimming with happiness, "Will you marry me?"
"Of course, I'd love to!" I whispered, tears pricking at my eyes and causing my vision to blur. With that, not saying another word, he pulled me out of bed towards the kitchen for breakfast.
"You know what?" I said.
"What?"
"This makes up for every Christmas I've missed, it's equivalent exchange."
All he did was give playful smirk, and I couldn't help but think to myself I'm liking this holiday more and more.
~End~
