Remorse

A man upon a hillside,
Darkness pressing all around,
The moons pale light on silent night,
To frail to beat the darkness down,
And in the woods a mournful howl,
Of wolf separated from his pack,
The grief for his family gone,
Never to come back,
All expressed in a single note,
A single mournful sigh,
A single tearful song blown across the midnight sky,
As chill wind blows atop the hill,
The black dog sits in wait,
To cry his sorrows to the moon,
On that icy, black midnight,
For Dog and Wolf have lost much,
At the hands of a small gray rat,
Who's never felt justice,
And for that...
They cry to the silver-white moon.
