A One-Shot from an idea I had.
The title is a line from "I Need a Doctor" by Dr. Dre, Eminem, and Skylar Grey.
All characters belong to TNT, Tess Gerritsen, and Janet Tamaro.
Enjoy.
And readers of my other story "Now What?", a new chapter will be uploaded in the next 3 days. I just have writer's block.
"Hey, Frankie," said Jane as she looked over to the old, worn couch in her living room.
"What's up, Janie? How was work?"
"Good, I guess. And stop calling me Janie."
He put his hands up defensively. "Sorry, Janie," he said with a smirk.
"I gotta say work is boring without you. No patrolman to boss around on and off the job." In the year since the shooting, Frankie has stopped working as a patrolman for the Boston Police Department because of the lasting aftereffects of the events that transpired on that faithful September day. Jane leaned on her hands while looking out the window on her living room wall that faced the bustling streets of Boston. "Do you ever miss working the streets?"
"Yes, I do… sometimes. But since the shooting, I couldn't do it anymore. It changed everything and working just became impossible."
"I know how you feel. What Bobby did changed my world forever because those scars, emotional and physical, will never disappear," Jane said as she took a swig of her beer. KNOCK. KNOCK. "Oh, that must be Maura, Korsak, and Frost," Jane exclaimed as she hopped off of her couch and ran to get the door.
"Hi, Jane," said Frost with a clearly sad expression, even though he tried to put on a slight grin.
"Hey, Jane," said Korsak with his usual demeanor.
"Hello, Jane," said Maura as she walked through the door after the two detectives.
"Hey guys. Would you like some beer?"
"Yes," said Frost and Korsak at the same time. Jane walked into the kitchen, only to find that Maura followed her. Jane turned around as saw Frankie standing by the stove, leaning against the counter.
"Have you seen Frankie recently?" asked Maura with concern in her voice.
"Yes, I have actually. He is over by the stove."
Maura turned toward Frankie and said "Hello, Frankie," as she waved.
"Hey, Doc," said Frankie with a smile. Jane leaned into her fridge and pulled out 4 beers and walked into her living room, handing a beer to everyone. Surprisingly, Maura accepted her beer.
"Wow, Doc. Your tastes have changed, I see," said Korsak.
Everyone raised their beers as Frost said a toast. "To all of the officers killed by Bobby and his men and to Frankie, who stayed a hero until the end. It may have been a year, but you have never and never will be forgotten." CLANK.
After having dinner in silence, everyone went home and Jane was left all alone with Frankie. She sat down on her couch and Frankie did the same. As she looked at her brother's ghost, all Jane could think was I'm about to lose my mind, you've been gone for so long.
