Missing scene from the episode '1969'. Ever wonder how Teal'c got his afro? Just a short little ditty that I found in the depths of my old computer. Originally written in 2003, go figure.
Disclaimer: Not mine, just speculating what might have been.
The Fro
The merry atmosphere of the market place was uplifting. After finding themselves in the year 1969, all of SG-1 had had to have come to terms with the fact that their newly formed plan could go spectacularly wrong. Fortunately, that had yet to come to pass. The chattering people around them almost made them forget what had brought them there, Jack in particular had began to embrace the year gone by.
Sam tugged at the yellow and blue fabric of her skirt and it settled around her legs, now without creases. She glanced at Teal'c who was standing next to a mirror that hung from one of the clothing stands. Keeping his head slightly bowed, he directed his steady gaze at his teammates. "I believe I require a piece of clothing to conceal my forehead."
No one at the market had payed particular attention to the golden emblem, but as another member of their team had informed Teal'c, the people at the market were 'groovy'. Nevertheless, he was bound to attract some looks, especially once they left the market.
"I think I saw something," Jack said as he straigtened up to peer over a clothing rack. "Ha!" he exclaimed when his eyes found what he had seen earlier.
Removing the item from the pile of various headgear, he placed the afro wig on Teal'c's head, pulling it far too low on his forehead.
"There!" Jack said cheerily. "What do you guys think?"
Both Daniel and Sam looked at each other, Daniel grimaced. Sam bit her lip in an attempt to control her amusement.
"I think I know what it's missing," she said as she disappeared out of their view.
"I wonder what she's up to," Daniel pondered, trying to catch a glimpse of where Sam was heading.
Jack shrugged, reaching up to try to adjust the afro. Teal'c let out an annoyed puff of air and grabbed Jack by the arm, effectively cutting off any futher prodding."I can only hope for improvement," Teal'c said, bobbing his head up and down a few times, trying to get the stray hairs off his eyes.
Jack tried to look hurt, but was enjoying Teal'c's comedic struggle against the offending curl too much to care. Daniel shot Jack a look of enough-with-the-schadenfreude, but was not entirely succesful either.
Mere minutes later, Sam reappeared with a red scarf. "This should do the trick," she said grinning and began to tie the piece of fabric around Teal'c's head.
When she moved to stand behind Teal'c to tighten the knot, the rest of SG-1 were smiling with her.
"I think you found your style, T," Jack said.
Daniel nodded. "Looking sharp, Teal'c."
With one final adjustment Sam stepped away and joined her two team mates. "It suits you," she said.
Teal'c caught sight of himself in the mirror again and his expression became less strained. "Thank you, Captain Carter," he said with a small bow of his head.
"You're welcome Teal'c," she said and patted him on his arm.
"You know, this ain't half bad," Jack said, reflecting on their current existence. "Aside from not knowing what the dates on the note mean."
Before the subject could be discussed further, Jenny beckoned them over, away from the stalls and crowd. They could see Michael fumbling with the trinkets hanging off the rear-view mirror.
"Guess they want to get this show back on the road," Jack said as the group began walking back towards the van in their colourful ensembles.
"Indeed."
