The quill, spilling ink as it drifted; two drops at the start, one at the end, quick loops, tight transition from word to word.

Once complete the parchment floated up and inserted itself into a similarly lifted envelope. With a breath of sparks and flame the letter burned into a cloud and transported to the inside of a great tree thousands of miles away.

A small pink dragon burped and hastily covered his mouth. With his free hand he seized the letter noting the royal paper and seal he eyed it closely examining the text as he held the paper in front of a lamp. He wondered at first why it was a letter and not a scroll. But the hand writing was the princess's.

He hurried up the few stairs and entered the adjoined room. Twilight would know but…

He stopped just short of her bed not wanting to wake her. The letter was addressed to the dragon of the house. Not Twilight.

He calmly made sure the sleeping pony was indeed still asleep and returned to the main library.

He discretely tore the letter open with a swift movement of his pinky claw.

-Dear Spike

I hope this finds you in good health, I on the other hoof; I am not in my best health; in fact I have a sickness the doctors tell me is called Dragon Sickness. I stare at gold, caress it even; I become very ill if I attempt to help others with anything. A deep aching in my head and heart occurs if I leave the castle without a gold chain dangling around my neck or unsecured treasure chests left about. I know you as a Dragon must have knowledge of this sickness and I beg for your help.

Sincerely Yours

Nightmare Moon.

P.S come as soon as you can.

Spike stared at the letter eyes racing over the last line. Beg? He tried to forget how much Nightmare had hurt Twilight.

Granted he was fine with eternal night. But that was not the point; Nightmare needed his skill, nay his amazing abilities, to help cure her. But he would have to leave his friends. How? How could he just up and go for a pony he barely knew?

But she has Dragon sickness which Spike knew how to cure. He also knew it got worse if you started out not having many friends to help you in the early stages. But he never heard of a pony contracting Dragon Sickness before. And he had only had it with intensity once.

He thought about the part of her aching Heart, he attributed it to Love sickness. Missing somepony or something with such intensity that it physically hurts you to be away from them, or it.

But how was he to solve the Love portion? For that was giving her the most pain. She would have to love something more than gold; somepony more than gold. He mused over a slew of options, what if he got her to love him more than gold.

He wondered what it would be like to fall in love with a Pony. He pondered the possibility of Nightmare turning herself into a Dragon. That would work out the physical obstacles. He rubbed his hands together mischievously and gave a throaty chuckle at the thought.

"And Princess Nightmare Dragon pants would be all mine." He would end up royalty too, yet another bonus, he could think of nothing bad or wrong about his plan.

Than he realized he spoke out loud and did a quick 360 to see if Twilight had woken up.

She was still asleep. He broke his plan it five steps over a year's time.

Step one: begin curing Nightmare.

Step two: become good friends in the process.

Step three: cure Nightmare and get her to love him. He reasoned it would work due to Dragon sicknesses withdraw symptoms.

They immediately latch onto whatever is the most comforting thing in front of them. He owed Rarity a good sized jewel for her assistance with his own cure.

Step four: convince her to transform herself into a Dragon so they can be together forever.

Step five: CLASSISIFIED.
