Chapter 1
"I'm home," I yelled the second I stepped in the house. "Mom? Dad? Grandma? Grandpa?"
Where was everyone?
"Honey, is that you?" I followed the voice that led me to the kitchen.
My eyes popped open big. "Helen Keller!" I screamed pouncing on her.
"Sweetie, please don't call me that."
"Sorry" I said through my covered mouth. I couldn't help it. Hey, don't judge but it sincerely ( Is that even a word? You know, I am ONLY in second grade so you can't possibly make me know this hard complicated 8 or 9 letter word.)Does make sense since her name IS Grandma HELEN Miller. Just thought of it.
"Why are you here? I thought mom was supposed to be here with a day off work. Though she didn't tell me the reason why."
"Your mama is... out." She answered in hesitation.
I nodded my head as if I understood her but truly and honestly I didn't.
That maybe kind of worried me.
I backed up, and headed toward my room. On the way, I went to check on Ollie. He was sound asleep in his crib. That was good.
Thinking about him crying made my ears and head hurt. Though he may be cute, he is very naughty and can get you in trouble in no time. No kidding.
I tiptoed the rest of the way to my room. I took out my homework and tried to work on it but I was too worried about where my mom was though I know I shouldn't.
Second grade homework was easy if you get it. I still have that little mini search project I had to complete, but I wasn't in the mood now.
A little while later, there was a knock on my door.
"In please," I called. I watched as grandma come in and sit by my bed.
"What's wrong?" She asked.
I shook my head which meant nothing.
"Well you mama is coming home in about 10 minutes. I just phoned her so if you're hungry, come down to eat something though dinner would be ready really quickly," she suggested and strolled off.
I waited and waited until i think I fell asleep.
Ding dong! Was my new alarm (which I think will only last for today) I woke up to.
"Dinner!" Grandma called which was a sign to get your but down there to eat. When I made my way downstairs I saw dad holding mom and helping her get around. Was she sick, I thought to myself?
We served the peas, corn, chicken, and broccoli around. I stuck the peas and broccoli to the side and ate the rest.
Everyone (I think) knows I hate veggies for sure.
"Hi Mom and Dad!" I greeted as soon as I sat down on my 3 stacked books when it used to be 4 when I was in first grade.
I'm not sure if I was short for a second grade human-being.
She kissed me on the head and Dad gave me a great big bear hug. It could have just squeezed my life out to China! That's how strong he is.
When I looked up after taking my second big gulp, my mom exclaimed in a cheery voice," Junie b. and Ollie, I have a bid surprise to tell you!"
I didn't really know what reaction I needed on face to put on only because I wasn't sure if the "surprise" was good or bad. I looked over at Ollie and he continued to eat like nothing had happened. Well of course, he couldn't understand. He's only about 2 years old (maybe 2 and a half. I don't really care though).
"Good or bad surprise?" I questioned.
"Of course good!" my dad answered for Mom.
