A/N: Just something that's been on my mind since this morning.

Natalya shuffled in her seat slightly, torn between staring at the overhead and continuing her notes. The video was kind of interesting, even if she already knew everything it talked about; Edgar Allen Poe's life. As she was deciding, the boy next in the seat next to her tapped her on the arm. She glanced over curiously.

"Can I copy down the notes I missed earlier? After you're done, I mean," the boy asked in a whisper.

Natalya nodded and turned back to her notes to continue them. It figures that the only way people would ever interact with her was to copy notes or homework. A few minutes later, she felt another tap on her arm. She turned again to find a stick of gum being held out to her. She blinked in surprise and took the piece, gently murmuring a quiet thank you. She opened the wrapping and stuck the gum in her mouth. As she chewed, she thought. For some reason, she felt elated, more so than she should be. It was just that a small act of appreciation, or any size act, like the boy's offering of gum in thanks was a very rare occasion for her. No one ever thought to befriend her or even talk to her throughout her whole life, thinking her weird or scary looking, so to receive even the slightest bit of acknowledgement was touching to her. Later, when the video ended, Natalya held out her notes to the boy with a small smile, happily chewing the gum he gave her.
