DISCLAIMER: I own nothing, so please don't sue.
Author's Note: Probably a one-segment thingy, I forget what they're called, unless it ends up leading into something a little more serious. Wrought of my complete and total randomness, and the fact that about 5 seconds ago I said "Purple Jelly Beans". Read and review, so I know that I can make more random ones. Your warning is now, this is a Neville/Luna fanfic. I don't technically support that for the books (I think it's Luna/Harry), but it's fun to write Luna/Neville because it just seems right somehow. Whatever. Read now.
Luna Lovegood loved purple jelly beans. Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans, the muggle variety, anything, just as long as they were purple. Any shade of purple would do. But it had to be a jelly bean.
There was a time, when Luna was a little girl, when all she would eat were purple jelly beans. Her parents worried about her, but nothing they did could convince her to eat anything else.
Before she came to Hogwarts, Luna went to a muggle school. Her father told her that it was a good learning experience, it would teach her how to behave around other children. And every day, she brought her lunch, and every day it was a bag of nothing but purple jelly beans.
The other children didn't know why she loved purple jelly beans so, and they thought it a bit odd. That's how she got her nickname, Loony Lovegood. They tried to make her cry, and at first it worked. But after a while, she got used to it, sometimes introducing herself as that.
When Luna's mother died, she ate nothing but purple jelly beans for three months. It was her comfort food, and she needed comfort desperately.
Then Luna turned eleven, and got her Hogwarts letter. She ate exactly 112 purple jelly beans, she was so happy.
Luna went to Hogwarts, learned witchcraft, and was generally ignored by the rest of the students. She still loved purple jelly beans, and she was still known as Loony Lovegood. Even among witches and wizards, she was considered an outcast. But she had purple jelly beans, so nothing mattered.
When Luna was fourteen, she met a fifth year at Hogwarts named Neville. She was sitting all alone in a train compartment on the way to school, reading her father's magazine and eating purple jelly beans, when Neville Longbottom, accompanied by Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley, sat down.
The following year, after going through much together, the two fell in love. She ate 213 purple jelly beans the day he said it. They proclaimed it to the world! But, alas, no relationship was permanent for Loony Lovegood. Hermione Granger came into the picture and Luna was forgotten, left again by a loved one.
During the last conversation Luna and Neville shared as a pair, Luna ate 617 purple jelly beans. Then, Neville broke up with her. He gave some lame excuse, but hours later, Luna saw him holding hands with Hermione Granger. She walked up to Neville, gave him all of her remaining purple jelly beans (and there were quite a few, thousands at least), and told him to enjoy the happiness that they once brought her, the happiness he once brought her.
Luna Lovegood hasn't eaten a purple jelly bean since she was 16 years old. For months after, Luna Lovegood ate nothing but pink chocolate bars. But that's another story.
