A calm breeze was setting across the bank near the village, and even from the mountaintops there echoed a familiar call.

"SIT, boy!" shouted Kagome.

"Arrgh!" Inuyasha muttered as he slammed to the ground. After he had put his face back together, he looked up to see Kagome sitting on a grassy hill, not far from where he was standing. "Kagome!" yelled Inuyasha, "What'd you do that for?"

"Sorry," replied Kagome, looking away toward the distance, "I've just been stressed lately....about school.....and stuff..."

"Well, you don't have to blame me for it!" Inuyasha said angrily. But then he noticed the look on Kagome's face and realized that this wasn't the time to fight. "Kagome...." said Inuyasha, "What's wrong? Did I do something to upset you?"

Kagome then looked up at him, and smiled, "Inuyasha...."

"Yeah?"

"Do you....do you ever think...about me? Like when I'm in my own time....do you ever miss me being here?"

"Um....well..." Inuyasha muttered, "No, why would I care if you're gone or not? Doesn't matter to me...."

Expecting a harsh reaction to this, Inuyasha squinted his eyes, but Kagome just stood up and sighed.

"That's okay," she smiled, "I figured you would say that....I'm going in to bed now...."

Kagome's smile then faded as she turned and started toward the village, and Inuyasha was left confused. What's up with her? he thought as he watched her fade into the distance.

Later that night Kagome was lying in bed, staring up at her ceiling, tears flooding in her eyes. Stupid jerk, she thought to herself, he doesn't care about me....only for...Kikyo...but who am I to get in the way of their relationship? I mean, Kikyo did sacrifice her life for him.....more than I could ever do....

Kagome then turned on her side and closed her eyes, the tears now streaming down her face. "But....I still wish....Inuyasha...."

Kagome then felt a warm hand slip over her shoulder, and she opened her eyes slowly, coming face to face with Inuyasha.

"Kagome...." Inuyasha said slowly, and seeing how she had been crying, he used his sleeve to wipe her face, "...look, Kagome...I....I do care....about you....and...well..."

"No, it's okay...." Kagome said as a reassured smile came across her face, "...I know...you care about me now....but you still....want to be with Kikyo, and I can't stand in the way of that...."

"But Kagome....you....I still...."

But then suddenly Kagome got up, knocking Inuyasha's hand away, "No!" cried Kagome, "Inuyasha, we can't be.....together....it just....wouldn't be right...."

"But-arrgh!"

Inuyasha tried to step toward Kagome, but he tripped on her makeshift bed, and they both tumbled to the ground. When Inuyasha opened his eyes, he realized that he was lying face to face on top of Kagome.

"Inuyasha...." said Kagome slowly, "What...."

"Kagome...." replied Inuyasha softly, "I...I love you...."

"WHAT?!" cried Miroku, Sango, and Shippo, hidden below the window.

"Huh?" said Inuyasha and Kagome simultaneously. "Heeeeeey...." said Inuyasha angrily, "What are you guys doing watching us like that? Why you-!"

"Run for it!" Miroku cried, and all three of them leaped from the windowsill and headed across the fields.

"Ahhhhhh!!!!" Inuyasha cried as he chased on after them. Kagome stood up and laughed to herself. Well, what do you know, she thought as she watched her friends running around, half-screaming, half-laughing, he does care after all. Now if only he weren't so stubborn...
