After condemned souls brought down the heavens, Guardian Angels were exiled to the mortal world. They exist to avenge, bound by oath to restore balance between the Condemned and the Celestial. I shall be the last to ascend and join my kin, to be the final member of House Estialis. The Triad must fall; the Stars must reign. That means relinquishing everything to my duty…even love.

(Ria's POV)

I pull my hood a little further over my face, careful to avoid hitting anybody as I weave through throngs of people and slip into a coffee shop. Eyes cast downward, I make my way to a table in the corner. The last thing I need is to attract unwanted attention.

My phone rings from inside my jacket pocket, causing my cup of tea to pause in midair. My breathing hitches, earning the surprised exclamation of an elderly woman from a short distance away. Mumbling an apology, I promptly set down my cup, rising to make my way to the back hallway of the building. Hands shaking, I pull my phone out, the display turned red in the light of an illuminated EXIT sign.

Unknown number.

Closing my eyes, I press the phone to my ear. This is it. Get ready. "…H-hello?"

"…Ria?" An Egyptian accent comes over the phone.

My eyes snap open. "Kara?"

"It's me."

I slump against the wall, breathing out slowly. "Thank the Stars."

"Are you alright?"

I peer cautiously around the corner, mindful of possible eavesdroppers. "I'm fine. Are you?"

"I always am."

"The others?"

"Not with me. Nina called. It's time."

My throat goes dry. "Where?"

"Forks, Washington. Two days."

"Two days." I confirm. "Until then."

The line goes dead.
