Disclaimer: Nope, I don't own The Godfather. Mario Puzo and the movie people do.
SONNY CORLEONE
/ The blood pierced my tongue
When my teeth sank into my knuckles.
"Don't kill him" she wailed,
but the purple laced with black
had already crept across her face,
her cheeks, her neck
like a rotting disease.
"Please, don't" she cried,
but she was worlds away for I was already gone
and the roar had begun.
Flames devoured my mind, burning it black
And all I could hear was the beating of a thousand drums
Crying for his blood.
/ I screamed his name and saw
the Truth dancing in his clear blue eyes,
the Mark of Cain on his face.
He was my sister's husband,
but he was also a dead man.
The rhythm of my fist beating his eyes and brain and gut
mingled with his howls of agony
And it was sweet music to my ears.
/ He twisted his body on the ground and moaned.
Fight back! Stand! Be a man!
I hissed as I stared down at him
But he only clung to my feet
Like a man clinging to his last hope.
He would not fight back.
/ Slowly, the consuming flames left me
And I knew then
That I had lost.
A/N: I haven't posted a fanfiction in several years, so I'm excited to be posting this! This is a poem I wrote about Sonny beating Carlo Rizzi for smacking around his sister, Connie. Although it is not obvious in the movie, the novel describes how Sonny was really out to kill or at least seriously damage Carlo for abusing his sister. Carlo knew that he was no match for Sonny. He knew his best option was to lay on the ground and not fight back because as violent and hot-tempered Sonny is, it is against the core of who Sonny is to kill a helpless being.
Sonny would never beat a woman or child, and he wants Carlo to stand up and fight back like a MAN, but Carlo knows that the only way to protect himself... is to refuse to fight back. I found this fascinating and just really wanted to write about it, and sort of foreshadow Sonny's later death. Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed it. PLEASE review and tell me your thoughts! :)
