Bold's Angst
"We must hurry if we want to be there before the cubs are born." Whisper called to me as I limped to try and keep up with her. Snow was lightly falling onto the countryside covering everything in a white blanket.
"I must rest, I'm sorry." I said panting with exhaustion from the trek that started in the town to this hill just outside of it, while sitting down on my haunches to allow the tiredness to go away.
"Alright, I'll look for somewhere." Whisper said to me as she trotted off to look for a den. My mind began to wonder over the events of the past few days and everything that led up to this present moment.
I thought she loved me, but no, she just loved the fact of who my father is, and she decided to have us go back to White Deer Park, for the cubs. Understand that I am all for the idea of going to a place that is safe for them, but I am unsure whether White Deer Park is best or whether I will be able to face my mother and father again. I ran through my mind how I would try and talk to them when I saw them again. 'Hello mother, hello father. I know I ran away and all, but now I'm back,' I laughed inwardly at the pure absurdity of the thought.
I am in a great deal of pain from the gunshot wounds that were on by back legs, and the wires of the trap, which cut my eye, when I got Shadow out of.
Memories flash through my mind of the events that lead up to me running away. I remember my father's anger and disappointment in me and my mother desperately calling me back, to which I completely ignored and continued on.
Would the rivalry with the blue foxes still be going on? Had it turned into a war with them? Was anyone that I had known since I was a cub, my siblings and the other farthing wood animals, still alive? I asked myself with quiet curiosity. I had been away for so long and so much could have changed since I took my leave.
My mind was flooded with these thoughts when I heard a familiar cawing noise from the sky. Robber the crow, my friend.
"Ah so, you haven't deserted us old friend." He had helped me many a time while I was on that journey away from White Deer Park.
"Brought you some food didn't I." He said after he dropped a piece of meat in front of me.
"Thank you crow." I couldn't express that enough, with myself being in the condition I was in, I couldn't hunt very successfully by myself.
"Part of the oath." So he still felt tied to it, even though he doesn't need to continue to hang around me and Whisper.
"I found an old earth, it's quite safe. It isn't far." Whisper said reappearing from her search for a place to rest for a while.
"I'm coming." I said in a quick pant as I picked myself up off the ground and began walking toward the earth that Whisper had mentioned. "Goodbye old friend." I said to the crow.
It wasn't long till we got to the earth and I wasted no time getting some rest. The only thing I felt as I went to sleep was Whisper licking my forehead.
