prompt 18: mirror
The reflection was shiny and sharp; there was no doubt that Sakura was looking at herself, not one inch of fog indicated on the glass material. Her lips were pursed tightly and her eyes had the focused stare that those around her had become accustomed to seeing.
"Do you like what you see."
She glanced up at the husky voice. Sakura already knew he was there, that he hadn't left, not even after he had already led her to this very destination. "Is that a trick question?" There was no bit of nonsense detected in her tone. Sakura had always been serious around strangers-especially mysterious, captivating strangers who insisted on taking her to places unknown.
He raised an eyebrow. It was a fine eyebrow, a thin aristocratic feature which she couldn't help but admire. "You don't see the difference." It wasn't a question, though it could have been phrased as one. The boy said it as if it was a tiring conclusion that he hadn't wanted to arrive at.
Sakura was defensive. "No, I don't. There is none."
"Look closer." His finger waved once more at the mirror, and he turned away until she could only see his black spiky hair.
When she did so, because she apparently had no sense but to listen to complete strangers' words, Sakura was surprised to find an incredibly large difference in the reflection.
A headband with a curious and unfamiliar sigma covered her fair forehead and the apparel that she wore were not her hospital uniform; it vaguely told of what one would wear for combat. Black gloves, a green vest, and protectors patched against her elbows.
But, when she reached to feel them...there was nothing there.
"It's called the Looking Glass," the dark boy murmured, and. in a snappy move, he was behind her. The sensation of his lips so close to her ears sent shivers down her spine. "They say that it's where another world resides. A mirror that shows an alternate universe. This particular one," he gestured crisply at it, "is supposed to show one where we are shinobi. Able to use an energy called chakra and fight in wars with our extraordinary abilities. At least..." He paused, took a breath, and swiveled back around to stare at her. "That's what I've heard."
Breathing was difficult but she managed to let out a snort, despite the fact. "Am I supposed to believe a story like that? I don't even know who you are; why are you showing me something like this?"
"My name's Uchiha Sasuke," he answered, ignoring the second question. "Sakura. Let's go through the looking glass together."
