She looked around at the perfect Christmas scene that Max had created in their home while she slept. A tree sat in the corner of the room by the tv, ready for them to decorate it together later, tinsel garnished the tv while various other decorations covered the walls but in a classy way. She was not at all surprised to find mistletoe hanging from the ceiling in the centre of the room, right above where she was stood. Max reached down and kissed her, his plan had come together.
"So what do you think?" He asked, Zoe wasn't someone who overly enjoyed Christmas but this was their first year spending it living together and with their twins. She'd been too busy to decorate before and too tired to be in the mood, as was Max but he'd decided that it was worth the effort.
"Have you fed the twins?" Zoe asked as she saw them on their play mats at the other side of the room. They were Zoe's miracles, the products of another round of fertility treatment and nine months later she had the perfect set of twins, one boy and girl. Darcy and Charlie were now both 7 months old and this was their first Christmas, they both lay gurgling happily on their play mats as Zoe came closer. "Hey babies, did daddy make the room look nice and Christmassy?" Zoe spoke in a voice that she saved for speaking to babies and dogs.
"Yes I did, I left the tree for us to do together and then I have some surprises."
"You have the twins up, dressed, fed and you've done this. I think you deserve a surprise first!" Zoe spoke as she moved over to the sofa, pulling Max with her, she sat on his knees before she began kissing him.
"Okay, we'll continue this later, for now there are children present."
"Spoil sport."
"Now onto the next surprise. Stay there and close your eyes." Max told her as he left her side and walked away, returning moments later with her surprise in his hands. "You can open them now." In her hands he placed four stockings, each with a different initial on. There were two red, one with a Z on and the other with a D on, the other two were green, one with a M on and the other with a C. Zoe had to wipe a tear away from her eye before she looked up lovingly at her partner, "I love them Max."
"Well I thought I'd let you put them up." He replied gesturing to the hooks that were on the fire place. Zoe stood up, placing them in alternating colours before she took a step back to admire her work.
"What do you think Charlie?" Max asked the baby in his arms, as Zoe picked Darcy up.
"I think he loves it."
"What's not to love about a Walker Christmas."
"I'm not a Walker Max." Zoe pointed out, watching Max curiously as he handed his partner Charlie too.
"Well I think it's time we changed that." He told her as he got down on one knee. "I don't have a ring because I thought I'd let you pick, after all it'll be you wearing it for the rest of your life. But Zoe Hanna you've made me the happiest man in the world just by being with me, you loving me was a bonus and then the twins were the icing on the cake. Marry me? Become Mrs Zoe Walker." She couldn't speak after his words, a rare occurrence for Zoe, all she could do was nod as she lunged forward, being wary of both of the babies in her arms as she kissed him.
"Of course."
