Pink toenails and Bold Thoughts

Bright pink. The kind you usually see on Barbie, but a little softer. More rosy.

That's what was on CSI Sara Sidle's toenails. It was one little feminine delight she gave herself. And no one but her saw it, because CSIs don't wear sandals while investigation a crime scene. No one on her shift had even worn dressy-work shoes.

She giggled as she leaned back. Most of the CSI on night shift were of the opposite gender and she couldn't imagine Grissom in flip-flops. But she didn't doubt he would look cute in them, anyways.

Slowly she sank further into the hot water. It had been a long night. Thank god there at least wasn't a decomp. Ug. Shuddering, she pushed the last one, a four-month-old corpse, to the very back of her mind.

The logical part of Sara told her to not think of work right now, it was her time. Focus on you. Not the cadavers stuck in the county morgue. Tonight Sara decided to listen to the part of herself that was concerned with vanity and pleasure. "Yourself." It was high time to get her priorities straight.

Various thoughts of the happy times she'd recently spent in the Las Vegas crime lab sifted through her mind.

Pulling pranks with Greg, the engagement party for Warrick, teasing Nick, her first night here and having dinner with Grissom, listening to Catherine's lecture on what eye shadows go with what hair color and complexion, flirting with rescue workers, and getting to know the shy David better.

All good memories. She was happy she had stayed in Vegas. It was worth it, in friendships. Never being a people person it amazed her how close and friendly she had gotten with these people. While in San Francisco for the same amount of time she'd been her she hadn't gotten this personal with anyone.

Maybe she would order Chinese after she was done with the soak. Maybe she would call Grissom and ask if he wanted to come over and watch a movie. Maybe she could be bold. Maybe…

The mixture of warm water, rose soap, and happy thoughts all helped Sara drift into unconsciousness until the telephone rang.

Gil wanted her to come over for dinner. She said yes, and being bold didn't matter.
