Katniss was terrified.
'Peeta? Where is Peeta? Have to find him, have to find Peeta!' Was all that ran through her mind.
Adrenaline flooded her system. There was a sudden rustling in the bushes behind her. Katniss nocked an arrow and drew her bow in one fluid motion. It was Finnick. One hand raised in surrender, the other clutching his trident.
"Katniss." He said nervously.
Katniss kept the bow drawn. Should she do it? Should she just let it fly? It was going to come down to this point anyways, why not end it now? It would be easier in the end, she would only have to face Johanna if she did it.
"Katniss remember who the real enemy is." Finnick said.
The enemy...the enemy...the enemy was...was the other tributes. Snow was trying to kill her using the other tributes! He didn't want to get his own hands dirty, he would get rid of her and then Peeta! Well, Katniss was going to show him.
Katniss released the arrow. It flew straight into Finnick's chest. He cried out in pain and surprise. He locked eyes with Katniss for a moment. There was something in his eyes she didn't understand. Could that be...disappointment?
Finnick fell to the floor; a cannon fired in the distance, confirming his death. Katniss looked at the body, then turned and continued to yell for Peeta. She had to find Peeta!
...
Those who were watching in the Capital were appalled. Katniss Everdeen, their 'Girl on Fire', one of their favorites, had shot her own ally. More importantly, one of their personal favorites, Finnick. They were outraged! How could she do such a thing? He was her ally! Their favorite! They slowly began to realize that maybe Katniss wasn't the girl they thought she was. Maybe she shouldn't be their symbol of hope, if she was so quick to kill her allies. But then, they remembered the baby. The baby Katniss was carrying. Did she kill Finnick as an act of love for her unborn child? Was it an act of love, so that maybe she would have a chance to see her baby, to raise it? The thought appeased the people, the anger still resided in their hearts. They could only watch and see what she did next.
...
Annie has been watching her love from the beginning. Though she couldn't watch the other tributes when the camera showed them dying, for the flashbacks would return, she watched her love whenever the camera was on him. She saw him get shot, the arrow protruding from his chest, shot by the person who was supposed to give them all hope. She cried in agony and clawed at the television screen. She tried to will herself through the screen to get to him, to be with him so he would die in an arena with strangers. Finnick fell to the ground and so did she. Her hand clutched over her heart, she heard the cannon's distant, deep shot, that announced the official death of her lover. Annie sobbed and clawed at the floor in anguish. She rolled on her back and looked up at the ceiling still sobbing, she then remembered something he had said before the games had begun.
"My love, if I do die in there, my last thought will be your lips."
She knew Finnick had meant those words just for her. Annie's sobs subsided. The hiccuped and let the remaining tears on her face fall. She looked up at the screen. The lightning was just striking the tree and Katniss was flying through an ocean of fire. The screen went black. Somehow the Games reception had been lost.
It didn't matter, her love was gone. Annie hoped that Katniss was dead, just like her love. She even hoped that Katniss had gone to Hell. Annie didn't want her love's killer to be in the same beautiful place she knew he had gone.
...
In all of this, President Snow knew he had won.
