Diamond Eyes
Artemis Fowl One-Shot
ArtemisxMinerva, One-Sided
(Based off Diamond Eyes by Deftones)
She would never forget the ipain/i.
How could she? Sleepless nights laced with recollections of sapphire eyes, the deadened, defeated look upon the Eurasians face, and the simple notion that every tear spilled over Artemis Fowl traced back to her mistakes, prevented Minerva from ever thinking straight.
Even within daylight, as the sun poured through her tall, tinted pans of glass, she spent endless hours focused solely on how to bring that boy back – that boy that haunted her dreams whenever she finally managed to grasp unconsciousness, even if momentarily. She called and wrote, begged and cried, but the numbers stubbornly refuse to balance out to a recognizable pattern, and Minerva began her elaborated plans from scratch once more.
And for three idamn/i years she multiplied and divided, all the while punishing herself for her failure by facing the man who never once wept until she sauntered into his and life and took someone he cared for dearly away. She'd force herself to fight the water building in her skull and listen to the memories she didn't deserved to picture.
And when she'd slowly find her way back home, numb to the core in a zombie-like state, she'd will her thumbs to turn to the news on her TV and watch the re-runs of the report stating that the great Artemis Fowl the second had virtually vanished off the face of the Earth, not bothering to hide the tears carving a path down her pale face and slackened jaw.
While most girls her age would resort to slashing their wrists in a weak attempt for distraction, marking themselves with images of hatred and grief, Minerva's decided the best punishment for her wrong-doing came in the form of the boy she once loved dashing through her mind, mocking her, sneering that she would never achieve her goal because she just wasn't ismart/i enough.
She allowed his diamond eyes to pierce straight into the abyss of her soul – deeper even – allowed them to view her deepest secrets and darkest memories, promising herself if – no, iwhen/i – he returned that she would never once dare to visit him.
He would hate her. He would hate her with every fiver of his strong being and she was almost sure he'd kill her if he could.
So when he actually did return, after three suffering years, she ignored him completely.
But she still dreams of his diamond eyes.
