Light at the End of the Tunnel

Summary: A conversation between Ron and Hermione in The Burrow about a week after the last chapter of Deathly Hallows. One-Shot. DH Spoilers. This is my first fan-fic so don't expect anything special
Ron stepped outside the Burrow and into the garden. It was in its usual mess with overgrown hedges and gnomes scattered all over the long, green lawn. He sat down in the middle of the vast garden, thinking about the previous weeks events. His beloved brother Fred had died in the Battle of Hogwarts and it seemed like his whole family had sunk into a deep depression. His brother George now never left his room and his Mother spent all her time crying all over the house. The whole atmosphere of the house was incredibly grim and upsetting. Then he thought about another great loss, Tonks, the clumsy Metamorphmagus and her loving husband, Remus Lupin. They had also died that night, leaving poor Teddy, their son, orphaned and alone. Thinking about all of his and his family's losses, and how the Wizarding World had been left to pick up the pieces, tears rose in his eyes.
''Hello Ron'' said a soft voice over his shoulder. Her warm breath tickled his cheek.
It was Hermione.
She was now standing in front of him and she could clearly see the tears rolling down his cheeks. ''Oh, you know, just thinking about stuff'' he mumbled, feeling his cheeks burn with embarrassment. He remembered their short kiss during the Battle of Hogwarts and how that was the happiest he had felt in a long time. Remembering this, he felt his cheeks glow an even brighter red. She sat down and put her arms around him.
''Ron…well…I've been thinking about…well…'' Hermione began.
''The last time we did this?'' Ron asked
Then he kissed her gently on the lips and after a few seconds he broke away. Hermione smiled a sweet, shy smile and then she kissed him again. Ron put his arms around her and all he could think of was Hermione: how sweet her lips tasted: how beautiful she was: how he had always found a place in his heart for her. Horrific images of the pale, still bodies of Fred, Remus and Tonks flew out of his mind and were replaced with new ones, oh himself and Harry fighting a troll to save Hermione, seeing her again after she had been petrified, him and Hermione alone in the Chamber of Secrets, Hermione kissing him during the Battle of Hogwarts…
Hermione broke away.
''Are you sure this is what you want Ron? I understand if you don't…'' Her voice trailed off.
''Hermione'' he began. ''This is what I've wanted ever since we became friends. That kiss we shared during the Battle was amazing. I'll never forget it. I haven't thought about anything else since.''
Hermione cut him off.
''This is definitely what I want Ron''
Then she kissed him again, with more passion than he had imagined, and this was exactly what he wanted…
''Do you two want…Oh!' exclaimed a voice from behind them. They turned around and they saw the flustered face of Mrs.Weasley. Suddenly, her face broke out in a massive smile.
''I am so happy for you two!'' she gushed and then she turned around and ran back into the house.
''Well…that was embarrassing'' said Ron
''Maybe…we could go somewhere more private'' said Hermione in a suggestive manner. So they got up, and walked hand in hand into the sunset.
