Prologue:

"RIIINNNNNGGGG!", the ear-splitting sound of the warning bell reverberates the ought he almost-empty halls of Idris Middle. Only one student is left in the corridor: Clarissa Adele Fairchild. The small twelve year old, hurriedly throws the required belongings into her bag, before rushing down the hallway to her first period class.

Mr. Aldertree's classroom was halfway across the school, but Clary was fairly sure she could make if she hurried.
As she barreled down the hallway, Clary recalled the reason she was probably going to end up in detention after school:

It had all started innocently enough. She had just arrived at school and was making her way towards Izzy Maia and Camille. Of course the universe didn't feel like playing nice this morning-not that it ever did- and Clarissa ended up being tripped by arch nemesis: Jace Herondale.
It was the understatement of the century to say that Clary and Jace disliked each other. Here, let me help you understand.
Imagine having a huge mansion full of Nutella all to yourself. You could sit and eat Nutella day in and day out, but you still somehow managed to have six-pack abbs. Do you have that image in your head? Good.
Now imagine that one night, while you are sleeping someone sneaks into your mansion steels all off your Nutella and then, puts icing on the cake by burning your mansion to the ground. I mean, honestly it doesn't get much worse than that.
That, my friends is how Clary and Jace felt towards each other; and the chances of that changing were impossibly tiny.
Anyway, Clary being Clary just had to blow up and tackle Jace into the fountain in front of the school, and Jace being Jace simply had to dunk her head under water before storming of to get dry.
Izzy had approached her, for the sole purpose of telling her that she looked like a drowned cat. Because that was definitely helping things.

Long story short, Clary had ended up changing into her gym uniform, rushed to her locker and was now running like a headless chicken in the hopes that she might get to class on time.
Clary didn't understand how Jace could go through the same ordeal as her and still make it there on time. She could practically feel his smirk as she imagined his response.

"Because, I'm simply that amazing. Jealous? It's okay, who wouldn't be", he would say.

Clary finally snapped back into reality as she reached Mr. Aldertree's classroom door. Just as her finger were coming into contact with the door knob, the tardy bell rang.
"Thanks universe." , she said sounding anything but thankful as she walked into the room.

The whole classes eyes snapped towards me as I entered the room.

"Ah, Clarissa. So glad you finally decided it was important to come to class.", Mr. Aldertree said with fake happiness.

I hear a snicker and looked for the source. Guess who it was. Did you guess Jace? If so congrats!

"Take a seat Miss Fairchild," he continued, "I was just announcing that Idris Middle will be having a uni-sex soccer tournament. Participated is mandatory for those of you about to ask.", he said the last part looking pointedly at Isabelle, who had her hand halfway raised.

Finally, some good news!, I thought to myself as I sat down. I didn't see Jace smirking at me from the other side of the room. I wouldn't find out what he had planned until later, and I wasn't going to like the way I found out.
