This is installment three of the "Holiday Suck" saga. Enjoy.
"Fireworks, Fireworks, Fireworks!" Jamie yelled as he ran through the mansion. He ran right into the foyer and right into a scowling Logan.
"Watch it Junior. What are you doing?" Logan barked.
"Sorry Mr. Logan. I was just excited about the fireworks tonight." Jamie said sheepishly.
"Well be more careful. You're lucky you ran into me. Someone else could have been hurt." Logan told the boy.
Jamie started walking from the room while rubbing his chest where he had impacted with Logan. "Could have been hurt? Oh I'd say there was plenty of hurt as it was." He mumbled as he exited.
Usually this would have evoked Logan's anger, but he had just processed what Jamie had said. The word made his blood run cold. "Fireworks." He growled.
"Charles." Logan yelled causing the professor to wince.
Scott stated the obvious. "I think Logan would like a word." He said sarcastically.
Logan entered the office. "What is this I hear about fireworks on the grounds tonight?"
The professor sighed. "Logan I understand your dismay, but it is the fourth of July and the children deserve some sense of normalcy."
"Normalcy is overrated Chuck and so are third degree burns." Logan said as he slammed his fist onto the professor's desk. "You want to let them celebrate their country's independence let them watch '1776' and that can be the end of it."
"Come now Logan I am sure it won't be as bad as all that." The Professor admonished.
"I think it is. I have just got a bad feeling about this Charles." Logan explained as he opened the door of the study to exit. Before he could leave John ran through the hallway yelling "Fireworks, Fireworks, Fireworkssssssssss." As his voice trailed away Logan turned again to the Professor and said, "See what I mean." Then left.
The fireworks show was about to start. Everyone was there. Jubilee, who could be heard telling everyone who would listen that she wished that she would have been asked to supply the fireworks. Tabitha was looking extremely mischievous…or serenely calm. The two emotions weren't very distinct for her. Rogue and Remy could be seen huddling on a blanket together getting ready for a romantic evening of pyrotechnic entertainment. Of course they would never be able to enjoy it with Pietro, Wanda, Kurt, and Kitty sitting with them. Scott was standing close to the Professor and Jean. There were mutants all over the lawn of the institute.
Logan had made sure to be close. He stood under a tree, a cigar clenched in his teeth. Ororo approached him. His demeanor was the exact opposite of what it had been earlier that day. "Why, Logan you seem positively chipper. I thought you didn't want this event to take place."
"Oh I don't." Logan said sliding his hands behind his head. "I just can't wait to see this blow up in Charles' face. It will teach him to listen to me."
Logan was about to get his wish. Directly after the first firework went off, flashing red and blue lights appeared. A cop got out of his car and ventured over to Professor Xavier. "Excuse me sir, but do you have a permit for these explosives?"
The Professor had not known that it was required to have pyrotechnics permit to have a show of that magnitude. So the obvious answer was, "No."
"Well then I am afraid that I am going to have to shut you down and fine you."
When the cop had left Logan ventured up to the Professor. The fine had been exorbitant and the expensive fireworks were confiscated. "Let the record show that I thought this was a bad idea from the beginning." Logan said.
"Duly noted Logan. Students I am afraid to inform you that the show is over." Xavier told the crowd.
John stood up. "Hey why don't I do the fireworks?"
A resounding no went up form the crowd.
"See Charles, bad idea. Next year stick with '1776'." Logan said as he turned and headed for the mansion.
I really hope you all enjoyed that.
