Chapter 1
Because Of You
Kelly Clarkson

Okay, I've reposted this just because I like it. This chapter was originally set to the song Because Of You by Kelly Clarkson. Each chapter will also be short, since they used to be songfics.

He idolized his brother, but so many times he saw just how hard life was on him. And he realized that each time Seto fell, it wasn't because he was under too much stress due to work. It was because he was bordering on accepting Yugi's offer of friendship. It was because in his heart he was wondering if maybe he shouldn't continue to build his wall thicker and thicker.

Seto taught him life's most important lessons. Stay where there's no friends, where it's safe. Friendship is a fire, and play with fire, you get burned. So thanks to his big brother, Mokuba found it just as hard as Seto had to trust in others. Maybe even harder, because while Seto had never actually seen someone he absolutely adored fall due to that weakness, Mokuba had. He'd seen the pain that it brought.

He'd always smiled when he was younger, all for Seto's sake. Smiling and laughing, he played the part of the adorable and loving little kid. But it was all a façade, every last bit of. The only part that wasn't faked was his love for his brother. He knew his pretense of joy and innocence lightened the load on Seto's heart, but deep inside he knew that Seto's depending on him was a kind of weakness. And in the end, even that mask hadn't helped.

He had loved it whenever his brother paid attention to him, though, enjoyed spending time with Seto. He missed that. He missed that so much, especially now. Now, Seto wasn't there for him. Mokuba was alone in the world, even more alone than the elder Kaiba had been. The world had sighed when the once cheerful little kid had turned out to be even colder than Seto Kaiba, though they were sympathetic.

Mokuba remembered all the times Seto had cried silently, not knowing the raven-haired boy was watching furtively through the door. He remembered how he had felt as he watched Seto slip further and further into the darkness, abandoning him. And in doing so Seto had betrayed him, for hadn't he promised to always be there for him? Mokuba sighed and turned off the computer, standing up and heading out. He was going to visit Seto tonight. It had been six years…six long and lonely years…

He remembered the horrifying headlines in the paper, the news stories. 'Teen CEO Defeated By Depression, Found Dead In Office; Younger Brother To Take Over Company'.
