AN: Hi everyone! This is my first attempt at writing a story that I have actually finished, so I'm very happy about this. English isn't my firts language, so if there are any mistakes, tell me so I can fix them.
About insanity
It was during a battle with his annoying brother and almost equally annoying Avengers when it happened. One of them – he thought it was the Iron Man – had shouted the question that, right now, hung heavily in the air. Are you insane?
And while Loki, if he were faced with a magical clone of himself (long story), would have asked the same question, he felt offended.
So after a few seconds in which everything seemed to stand still, to see his reaction, the words had left his mouth before he was aware of it. 'Am I insane?' It had a bitter sound, Loki decided, when he tasted the word in his mouth. 'Am I insane? A very good question indeed, if you would look at it from all the angles!'
He laughed while he cast his eyes towards the Avengers. Thor stared at him with his face dumbstruck; Iron Man was silent for once; the Captains expression was a mix from curiosity and cautiousness; the archer had lowered his bow slightly; Black Widow stood suddenly very rigid and the Hulks mouth hang slightly open.
Loki absently noticed that suddenly all the attention was focused on him. He continued, and while he spoke he was suddenly struck with the strange, abstract meaning of the word. 'There is no such thing as insanity, for insanity is purely subjective. If someone is different that the majority of the populace, they are called strange, dangerous, or, in the worst case, insane. Were the culture of the majority different, then they would be perfectly normal. People always tend to judge by their own standards, not by those of who is judged. And, more importantly, the never seek for the reason behind them.'
He paused, surprised that he said this out loud and that his words were completely true, even if he hadn't ever thought about the matter before now. Wondering why he felt the urge to speak further, he said: 'It is the same with history, it is only seen from the eyes of the victors, never is the losing side accounted for. For tell me, had the losers won the war, would the world not be very different? Would you be fighting me? Would you even stop to consider all the things I've done before inviting me for dinner like a long lost friend?' His eyes sought Thors. 'Would you judge me for the fact that I am born a jotünn, if Asgard were not so discriminating?' Suddenly Loki turned and disappeared from sight, never noticing the still-working security camera of the destroyed warehouse.
Long after Loki had left stood the Avengers among the debris of the building, everyone thinking about Loki's speech, if it could be counted as such. Iron Man was the first to break the silence and tension: 'Well, he certainly knows how to make an impression, doesn't he?' Nobody answered. 'I mean, that was quite unexpected, even for Loki. I've never heard him say so much at once!' This time there was a reaction from Thor. 'My brother has saved Asgard many times in the past with his talent for talking, but I can't remember any occasion where it wasn't tempered down by the fact that he used magic and words instead of weapons.' Thor stared into the distance. Slowly the other Avengers started moving again, searching the battleground for an evidence of Loki's current residence. They found nothing, but the did find a camera with the record of the whole scene. They took it back to S.H.I.E.L.D., where it would be copied and saved.
History is written through Victory, which can be received through Insanity
