Everyday the fat controller came to the station to catch his train and he always said to Thomas.

"Hello Thomas now remember that you are a really useful engine in the train yard, don't let those silly trucks tease you." the fat controller.

there were lots of trucks in the yard and Thomas had to put them into the right place, there were also another set of trucks that Thomas was told he mustn't touch.

"that's the breakdown train Thomas," his driver said. "when there's an accident the workmen jump into there coach and the engine takes them to help the hurt people and to clear and mend the line, the cranes are for lifting heavy things like engines, coaches or trucks."

one day Thomas was in the yard when he heard an engine whistling.

"HELP, HELP." said the unfamiliar voice.

and a goods train came rushing thru very fast, the engine of course was James and he was frightened.

"THERE PUSHING ME, THERE PUSHING ME," he panted.

the silly cars just laughed.

"ON-ON-ON" said the silly cars.

still whistling for help James disappeared.

Thomas the tank engine didn't know what to do.

"oh I'd like to teach those silly cars a lesson." said Thomas the tank engine.

soon came the alarm.

"JAMES IS OFF THE LINE THE BREAKDOWN TRAIN QUICKLY!" said the signalman.

soon Thomas was coupled on and off they went.

(the breakdown theme plays.)

Thomas worked his hardest.

"hurry-hurry-hurry" he panted.

he wasn't pretending to be like Gordon this time he really meant it.

"oh bother those trucks and their tricks I hope poor James isn't hurt." he said worried.

they found James and the trucks at a bend in the line the last few trucks were on the rails but the front ones where piled in a heap.

James's driver and fireman were feeling him all over to check if he was hurt.

"never mind James, it wasn't your fault it was those old wooden breaks they gave you, we always said that they were no good." his driver said.

Thomas pushed the breakdown train along side then he pulled away the unhurt cars away.

"don't hurt us Thomas" said the trucks.

"servers you right, it serves you right" he said, Thomas worked very hard pushing and pulling the re-railed cars backwards and forwards all afternoon, and he scolded them severely.

"this will teach you a lesson, this will teach you a lesson." he said, and the trucks answered.

"yes it will, yes it will" they replied.

they left the broken trucks and then with two cranes they put James back onto the rails.

(breakdown train theme again)

when he was back on the rails he tried to move but he found that he couldn't so Thomas helped him back to the sheds.

the fat controller was waiting anxiously for them.

"well Thomas I heard all about it and I must say I am impressed, James shall go to the works to have proper breaks and a new coat of paint and you, Thomas shall have a branch line all to your self." the fat controller said.
