Chapter 1: Teddy, An Angel

Eight years ago...

"T, stay with me. I know you can! T, I need you to stay with me!"

"PJ, tell Mom..." Teddy said, gasping for breath.

"Teddy, don't talk! I just need you to fight! Fight hard! For me, Teddy, for us, for our family. Teddy, please!"

"Mom...tell her...abo-...about the...camcorder...for Charlie...tell her...PJ.."

"Teddy, please!"

"PJ, tell...Charlie...To-...Toby..Ga-..Gabe...Mom...and Dad...tell them...I love them."

"No!"

The heartbeat monitor let out a long-lasting beep.

At the Duncan residence...

*Charlie's P.O.V*

The last I remember from eight years ago, is that Mom was pacing up and down the living room. Suddenly, her phone rang. She picked it up and screeched into it.

"PJ, is Teddy okay? Is she okay!? Is my baby fine?!"

I don't know what PJ said, but what I saw next was that, Mom threw the phone behind, and it shattered into a million pieces. The next second, she broke down, and buried her face in her hands.

I also remember, I walked up to the sofa, adjusted myself in a comfortable position, and I shook her hand saying, "What's wrong, Mommy?" I asked, "Is something wrong?"

"Teddy...Teddy..."

The only thing, that she kept repeating was Teddy.

"Where is Teddy, Mom?"

"Charlie...Teddy is an angel now." she said, tears gushing down, with every word.

"You mean, the fairies, who wear bright white, and get to stay with God?"

"Yes, darling. An angel."

"She must be looking very pretty. Right, Mom?"

"You're right. Teddy must be a very pretty angel."

"Can I see her, Mom?"

"I'm..." she started off, but she couldn't complete it. She cried and cried, but I still didn't get to know why.

"I'm afraid not, Charlie. You see, dear, she's with God now. She won't be back, darling."

"Does that mean I will never get to see Teddy, again?"

"Oh no. You will. But only when you go up there."

Saying that, she hugged me. Her tears gushed down continuously for the rest of the day.

It took me a few years to understand that Teddy was...dead. When I was a little older, I came to know that Teddy was in a fatal car accident and was put on immediate life support. She only lived for a few days. During that time, PJ was by her side. I was extremely saddened every time I saw her picture. I never got to spend a lot of time with her. I was only four when she left for college. But that was our fate. We had to accept the truth, and move on.
