Pokémon Daycares. These facilities can be found spread out around the regions, primarily used by trainers to raise a pokémon they don't have the time and/or skill to raise themselves. Lupus knew that he and his master would separate here.
"Lupus." Michael said behind the Lucario. "I just want you to know, that I'm sorry."
As am I.
"I don't want to do this."
I know.
"But if I don't..."
You'll be unable to follow your dream.
Michael sighed. "I will treasure the memories we made together."
As will I.
"I really wish things could've been different."
But they aren't.
During their travels, Michael's other pokémon had grown exponentially, while Lupus had fallen behind. They had tried to keep him on par, but Michael knew what was different: Lupus is weak compared to other Lucarios. It didn't matter how hard they trained, Lupus simply couldn't keep up with the rest of the team. He is the weakest link. With Lupus on the team, it would be difficult for Michael to go far in the upcoming tournament.
Michael looked at Lupus with teary eyes. "Forgive me Lupus..." But Michael didn't want for an answer. He couldn't. He just turned and ran, tears flowing down his cheeks.
Lupus just stared after his master, unmoving. I'm the one who should ask for forgiveness, master. You wouldn't have felt like this, if I wasn't so…
Useless...
