I don't own RENT or the beautiful song by the esteemed Sara Bareilles, Between the Lines. I will say, this is fairly sad, but I mean, this song fits perfectly with how Mimi was probably feeling in rehab: unloved, loving someone who doesn't love you back. Enjoy! Please review as well. I like reviews. But if you are going to say mean things, try to be a little nice about it.

Mimi sits, alone, on a metal folding chair in the corner of her room in rehab. Every wall is painted a bleak, boring white, and the windows have steel bars on them. Her roommate, Amy, lies on the top bunk of her bed, reading a book. Amy and Mimi have the same problems: depression and drugs. Mimi has sunk into a deep depression after Roger left for Santa Fe. The other Bohemians visit occasionally, Benny and Mark in particular. But Mimi won't talk to them. They have tried everything, but nothing works.

A song suddenly pops into Mimi's head. It reminds her of her situation: loving someone who doesn't love you back. She doesn't understand why she had believed that Roger actually had feelings for her. But even if he doesn't come back, Mimi will still love Roger for the rest of her life.

Time to tell me the truth

To burden for mouth for what you say

No pieces of paper in the way

'Cause I can't continue

Pretending to choose

These opposite sides on which we fall

"Loving you laters" if at all

No right minds could wrong be

This many times

The memory is cruel

I'm queen of attention to details

Defending intentions if he fails

Until now

He told me her name

It sounded familiar in a way

I could have sworn I'd heard him say it

Ten thousand times

Oh, if only I had been listening

Leave unsaid unspoken

Eyes wide, shut unopened

You and me

Always between the lines

Between the lines

I thought i

Thought I was ready to bleed

I would movie from the shadows on the wall

Stand in the center of it all

Too late, two choices

To stay or to leave

Mine was so easy to uncover

He'd already left with the other

So I learned to listen through silence

Leave unsaid unspoken

Eyes wide, shut unopened

You and me

Always be

You and me

Always be

I tell myself

All the words he surely meant to say,

I talk until

The conversation doesn't stay on

Wait for me I'm almost ready

When he meant let go

Leave unsaid unspoken

Eyes wide shut unopened

You and me

Always be

You and me

Always between the lines

Between the lines

Between the lines

Mimi lets her head fall to her chest, a tear rolling down her cheek.

"Roger, please come back," she whispers.

The end! Hope you liked it! Tell your friends! Reviews are much appreciated.
