A/N- a very short AU one shot where Lily, Harry and Sirius go to James' grave three and a bit years after his death. This is my first shot as fanfic so... ahhhh
Also none of the characters and stuff are mine (I wish) and there is also a quote from DH, extra love for the person who finds it.
"Harry Potter, you better have your hat on!" Lily Evans called down the hallway as wrapped her scarf around her neck
"But Uncle Padfoot said it looks like a girls hat," He moaned at her, pouting. When he was little he had great difficultly pronouncing the s sound in Sirius name, thus resulting in him becoming known as Uncle Padfoot.
"Well you can tell your Uncle that he's a great big girl himself," She huffed pulling the hat down over his ears and glaring at the man standing beside her son
"Mama said that you're a-" Harry started before Sirius clamped his hand over his mouth
"Yeah, yeah I heard her," He laughed softly before they closed the front door behind them and began their walk to the churchyard. The chilly autumn air whipped around them, and the fallen leaves behind the gate made it particularly difficult to enter. When Lily sat down on the slightly damp grass the wind pushed her hair away from her face. Behind her, her four year old son was kicking piles of fallen leaves and giggling wildly with Sirius. Lily could not help but note how Sirius' laugher seemed more forced than usual. Her hands brushed off a leaf from the grave stone and her fingers lingered on the name.
James Potter
Loving father, husband and friend
The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death
"Hi Honey, it's me. You know, the love of your life." She smiled weakly, before continuing "We're good, well as good as we can be without you. Sirius helps. He's such a good Godfather to Harry, who is looking more and more like you with every passing day, and he's an excellent flyer too, I can never get him off that damn broom," She laughed softly, her fingers twisting in the grass "But he has my eyes… you always did like my eyes." She looked up at Harry and Sirius, the latter of whom had pick up Harry and was whirling him in the air and smiled softly "Sirius finally asked Marlene to marry him. I know, it's a crazy thought, our bachelor Black getting married, but that's what the war did. It changed people." Tears pricked at the back of her eyes "Remus is still the same, you know how he is. He comes for dinner most nights. I think he and Sirius like to keep an eye on us, but I don't mind. It's nice for Harry." She paused, before James' death it would have been natural to go on to talk about Peter, but now… "Oh James I miss you. I didn't think it was possible to feel so halved but it is. Every moment, of every day I feel that you're not here with us. But I'm trying… For Harry's sake I keep going." At that moment her son walked over and sat on her lap, bringing Sirius over with him
Lily ran her hand up and down Harry's back, biting back the tears as Sirius squeezed her shoulder "I'm look after them Prongs." He said simply. Sirius had never liked Lily's visits to the cemetery but came to give her moral support and look after Harry so she could have a moment of peace with her husband
"Hi Dada, guess what. I caught a snitch in a real Quidditch game yesterday," He said, his fingers ghosting the same movement on the grave that Lily's had made minutes before. He babbled on for a few minutes about his various achievements of the week, all things James would have rejoiced in until becoming oddly serious for a four year old. "Mama and Uncle Padfoot miss you lots." He said, rubbing his eye "I do too."
