I Only Want Those Certain Ones.

Disclaimer: I own nothing Hunger Games related, this is made for fun, no money will be made.

"Loser! Fat boy! No-one likes you! How does it feel to be so shockingly poor?" These are the words that revolve around my head as I pound across the sand, these are the words that motivate me, and these are the words that will make me win the Hunger Games.

I'd always been bullied. Then again I was the perfect target, short, fat, not terribly ugly, but no Finnick Odair by a long shot. My name is Yollnack Volnin, and I live in District 4 of our "great" country Panem. The words they say are cruel but correct, I am a loser, I am fat, I have a chubby and round face, green eyes and a small nose, like everyone else in my district I'm quite tanned too, but what's different about me is that I'm shockingly poor, you see my parents were well paid and well respected until they washed up on shore dead. I still don't know exactly what happened, it was two years ago and I remember I had just got in from school and my dad cam up to me and told me he and mum were going on our boat, which was fine by me, for all I cared that meant that I got to stuff myself silly and not get shouted at! I was alone for an hour, no biggy, they wouldn't be back that quickly, then one hour went from two, to three hours, now I was starting to panic, then I heard a knock on the door.

"Yollnack?" It was my Aunty Varie, I jumped up and quickly opened the door, I was happy for the company,

"Hey, Auntie Varie! How are you?"

"I'm well, but-" her voice caught, there was a look in her face I hadn't seen until now, a look of sadness, a look that said she had to do something she didn't want to do, then the alarm bells started ringing. "Yollnack, I'm so sorry, but, it's your parents, I'm afraid…" She didn't need to say it, I knew what had happened, in those 4 hours I had gone from a happy, content boy to an orphan. I felt ready to explode with emotions, my parents, the ones who loved me most, the ones I loved the most, gone. Forever. I was alone.

And that was when my life changed course.
