A giant figure loomed in the horizon, growling and huffing menacingly at his offenders, who just so happened to be the oh so unlucky pair, Reyna and Leo. How they had ended up in the same place, neither of them were sure, but what they did know was that they would have to be ready to fight, because this thing didn't look like it was planning on giving up its attack on the city anytime soon.
Reyna grazed Scipio's side tentatively with her fingertips, and the horse trembled in unease beneath her touch. The Roman girl stiffened, shooting a nervous glance at Leo, the boy who she barely knew after hanging out for a few days, yet who seemed to be the person who knew her the best, maybe even better than Jason had. She cringed almost imperceptibly at the thought. But now wasn't the time to think of him.
Leo met her gaze almost instantly.
And then Reyna did the last thing anyone, including herself, would have ever imagined she might have done in that moment. She pat her pegasi's flank gently, relinquishing the horse after retrieving her gold dagger the holster at its torso and taking it into her hand, bouncing it lightly in her palm as if testing its weight when she was really testing her strength. There was enough. She was confident, she could handle this. They would handle this. And they would do a damn good job of it.
Skippy flew away hastily with a grateful whinny, and the Roman praetor took Leo's hand in hers, gripping it firmly and holding on for strength.
"Together?" she suggested carefully, earnestly awaiting the reaction of the Greek son of Hephaestus.
"Together," he agreed, searching her face before gazing back at the horizon, at the approaching giant.
It arrived swiftly. And they fought as they never had before.
