That New Baby Smell by Mandarax
Rated K
Summary – Samantha Carter was in awe. She stared at the tiny bundle in her arms in pure awe.
Author's note – my new baby niece who is barely two days old is already an inspiration. To the point where a picture I took of my mom, my sister and my niece makes me cry. Seriously, I'm not that emotional!
Samantha Carter was in awe.
She stared at the tiny bundle in her arms in pure awe.
The tiny bundle didn't move, its eyes were closed, one tiny fist resting against the blanket wrapped around its tiny body, another set of tiny fingers closed tightly around her finger. The tiny bundle had a dark mane on its tiny head, and barely visible eyebrows on its face, the tiniest little nose she'd ever seen, a mouth that was just perfect, the upper lip protruding above the lower one, and a tiny little chin.
She hadn't seen the rest of the bundle's tiny body yet, just tiny fingers and tiny face and tiny ears.
But it didn't matter.
The tiny little thing was perfect.
There were tears at the corners of her eyes as she held the little thing tightly, her eyes scanning the round little face as if memorizing every little detail about it. The little thing was just perfect.
"Hey," a voice said from the doorway and Sam looked up.
"Hi," she sniffled through a smile and looked back down at the bundle.
The newcomer walked into the room and sat down on the bed next to her, big calloused fingers reaching over to caress the bundle's soft little cheek. From there he moved his hand up and around Sam's shoulders, pulling her, still holding the baby, to him.
"She's a beauty," Sam said, leaning against his shoulder.
"She is," he agreed.
Eyes blurry from the happiest tears she ever shed, Sam returned her focus to the tiny little girl in her arms. The bundle stretched her little legs, tightening her hold on Sam's finger and Sam sighed contentedly. As the child settled back into a comfortable position, Sam lowered her mouth to the baby's forehead and planted a soft kiss. She then sniffed the child's head and looked back up at him with the brightest and blurriest smile he'd seen yet.
"I love that new baby smell," she explained even though she didn't need to.
He merely smiled and squeezed her closer to him.
She lowered her gaze to the child again, examining the baby's features for the umpteenth time since she'd taken her in her arms.
"Jack," she looked up suddenly, "I want one."
This time it was his turn to smile brightly. He moved his free hand to cup her face, clearing away her tears with his thumb. "Okay."
"Okay," she sniffled again and smiled.
"But you're going to have to give this one back to Daniel and Vala first."
Sam looked back down at the little girl, with Daniel's blue eyes and his button of a nose, and Vala's pale complexion and perfect little lips.
"Maybe in a minute."
He chuckled and his arm around her tightened again as both watched the tiny thing in Sam's arms sleep.
