Late Night Musings

Katherine sighed as she closed her Chemistry notes, tired from fighting the two monsters that had shown up while they had been trying to study at the youth center. So here she was at the Command Center at one am trying to get some studying in before her test tomorrow. As she turned to leave the hidden break room she had stumbled upon she caught sight of Billy leaning against the door frame, the sight of him caused her to jump.

"I didn't mean to frighten you." He said softly as he pushed a lock of his hair out of his face. Katherine moved towards the sink and poured herself a glass of water, downing half in one gulp.

"It's all right I didn't expect anyone to be here this late is all." She said as she turned around to face him, more composed than she formerly had been.

"Why are you here so late?" Billy asked as he pulled out a chair at the table and motioned for her to sit, going over towards the coffee pot afterwards and pouring two cups of coffee.

"Studying for a Chemistry exam." She said as she motioned to her Chemistry book and notebook that she had set back down on the table.

He nodded as he asked how she liked her coffee.

"One cream, one sugar, no more, no less or it tastes horrible." She stated as she watched him fix it with a soft gleam in her eyes.

Silence fell except for the sound of a spoon stirring against the coffee mug which settled after a few moments.

Katherine broke from her trance as Billy set down the mug in front of her and gave him a smile and nod of thanks. He watched as she took her first sip.

"You like?" he inquired as he brought his cup up to his lips to take a sip.

"Mmmh. I should have you make coffee more often." She replied, giving him her 'diving smile' as her mom called it.

"I am the master of making coffee! All bow before the master!" Billy said exaggeratedly.

"Yes Master. All Hail the Coffee Master, Forever!" Katharine said, playing along.

They managed to hold a straight face for three seconds until they busted out laughing.

"How come you're never like this around the others?" she asked as she toyed with a strand of her hair that had fallen over her shoulder. Billy sighed as he pulled his glasses off his face, something she hadn't noticed he was wearing.

"The others cared, but they don't really care anymore. It changed when Jason got the Gold Ranger Powers, even you saw that." He said almost bitterly taking Katharine by surprise, which Billy noticed and instantly regretted. "I'm sorry. I can just so frustrated sometimes. No one seems to hang around here anymore and I have no one to talk to is all."

"No, no it's alright. You feel like sparring? It would help with the frustration." Kat asked as she rose from the table and fell into her stance, motioning for Billy to do the same. He just shook his head and pulled his glasses off his face and set them down, turning to face Kat in a similar fighting stance.

"You're going down." Kat said as an evil grin spread across her face. Billy just shook his head.

"Negative, Katherine, you are." Was all he said as he launched himself at her.
