Why is it that humans exist? Is their sole purpose to be a food source for the demon race, or is there multiple intents for human beings? Demons, for centuries had no reason to question their superiority. They were inherently the better species in all aspects; strength, agility, appearance, intelligence, lifespan. What mere human could compare to the mighty demon?

Centuries ago there lived one daiyokai clan that came to be more prosperous than any other daiyokai or yokai clan in the land, the 'Inu no Akuma' or 'Dog Demon'. This clan would nurture up a demon child unlike any human or demon race had ever witnessed. This demon lord became a powerful conqueror of many lands and proved to be almost unstoppable, yet he had one weakness so to speak.

His compassion for humans was unprecedented, why had he felt such a fondness towards man? He could not help feeling that the way humans were treated was not honorable. Sure, if a human was to dare challenge him he would oblige their foolish request, but he would not go out of his way to express his obvious superiority over them. Determined to reform the regimes of the yokai, he established his ideals with his clan first. No subordinate of his was to take advantage of, abuse or cause bodily harm, feed on, fight, unjustly kill, imprison, or intentionally treat with contempt, any human for any reason until the matter was brought to him as the leader of the clan to discuss amongst his chosen elites. He figured that by working together with humans they could accomplish much more than by being 'predator and prey'. It would of course take many more centuries for humans to trust demons, and for demons to accept humans so that they could finally coexist.

The great demon lord in a desperate attempt to produce an heir took his first wife, a beautiful dog demoness from his clan. She was a ruthless cold-hearted woman and only sought the demon lord for his position as clan leader, in-turn securing a prestigious position for herself. The demon lord was aware of his wife's selfish objective, but he could not rid of her until she produced him a son, and even when she did her presence was still essential to raise the child.

Eventually the time came and the demoness bore a son whom the demon lord titled, Sesshomaru. Surely Sesshomaru would grow to be like his renowned father and nothing like his malicious mother. Even though the demon lord desired only the best for his only son, unfortunately his duties as ruler of the western lands prevented him from raising his son in his own image as he had initially predetermined. Sesshomaru matured to be the spiting image of his mother; cold, unkind, ruthless, and stoic. The demon lord did take notice that Sesshomaru had inherited his mother's personality characteristics as well as his father's physical attributes.

"There has to be something I can do, to make up for my son's...well actually my incompetence." The demon lord thought to himself shamefully. With great ambition to save the land from his own blunder in raising (or more accurately not raising) a callous heir, the demon lord would bring the ancient world of the western lands into the modern era.

...

Ring. Ring. Ring. Sounded the persistent alarm designated to wake Rin, the young teenage girl from her sleep. Rin slowly eased her fatigued body out of bed. Sitting up at the edge of her bed she balled up her hands and proceeded to rub her half shut eyes, she had not got much sleep during the past few nights.

You see Rin had just moved into town with her mother Usagi who was a very hard working woman. In the previous town in which they lived, Rin's mother was unable to find a job, so she moved her family of two to a new city. A city that was considerably safer because of the fact that in this city everyone could presumably coexist. Yokai, humans, half youkai, and daiyokai; anyone could live here free of troubles. But that still did not mean that everyone was equal, that everything was fair. It was not like that at all. However it would suffice for the time being.

Rin reached over to her side table pressing the "off" button on her provoking alarm. She then reluctantly lifted her aching body off of her cozy futon making her way to flip on the light switch. "Unghhh," Rin groaned letting her body stretch a little. Turning around Rin took a glance at herself in the mirror placed securely on her room door. As usual she looked a mess, but nothing a little primping and prepping can't fix. Rin continued to her bathroom where she took a shower, brushed and blow dried her long black silk of hair, got dressed, and put on a touch of makeup. Afterwards, she headed downstairs following the delicious scent of her mother's cooking. There in the kitchen she saw her setting a plate of breakfast for her on the counter which she often did before leaving for work in the morning.

"Here you are Rin, I'm going to head off now," her mother said sweetly. Usagi took her daughter in a quick embrace before leaving, "Have a good first day of school!"

"Thanks mom, I love you see you after school." Mother and daughter broke their embrace. Rin watched as her mother walked out the door closing it behind her.

Rin sat down at the table to devour her breakfast that was calling at her taste buds. As she ate Rin wondered how her first day of sophomore year would be like. hm I wonder if I'll make any new friends today? Rin thought to herself as she consumed the rest of her meal. When she was done she packed her remaining school supplies and headed out the door.

Rin walked at a steady pace along the sidewalk making her way to the bus stop just ahead. After about 5 minutes of walking Rin arrived at what she assumed was her stop. Rin noticed three other students waiting for the bus to arrive as well. Rin slowly ceased her pace and stood stiffly close to the road trying not to acknowledge the others who seemed engaged in conversation at the moment. After what seemed like another 5 minutes of awkwardly standing alone waiting for the bus she felt a gentle tap on her shoulder causing her body to slightly flinch at the sudden touch. Rin turned around and saw a quite beautiful girl with long raven black hair much like her own except much longer and healthier, complimented by her fair skin and light brown eyes. Rin cheeks grew a tint of pink at the thought of a beautiful girl paying her any mind at all.

"Hello there, forgive me if I startled you but my name is Kikyou, and I couldn't help but notice you look a bit lost." the girl greeting smiling very friendly like towards Rin.

"O-hh it's alright really. I did just move in town about two weeks ago, and I'm starting school here for the first time. I guess I'm just a little nervous. Oh! And I'm Rin b-by the way it's nice to meet you." Geez whats wrong with me? Babbling on to her about nonsense. Good first impression Rin….She gave a big grin towards Kikyou attempting to cover up her shyness.

"Well I can assure you everything will be fine, and what a lovely name you have! I'm actually kind of jealous." Kikyou giggled. She then turned around in the direction of the others whom she had previously been conversing with "Oh how rude of me!" Kikyou looked at her other two school mates whom she had forgotten to introduce "These two are my friends Inuyasha and Sesshomaru, they are yokai as you may have noticed, since we attend the most famous academy for mortals and yokai of all types."

Rin nodded in agreement.

"Inuyasha and Sesshomaru are brothers, Inuyasha being the younger half demon, and Sesshomaru the older full demon." Kikyou continued

And I thought I babble a lot yeesh Rin didn't really need an introduction since she had been lingering there long enough to over hear their conversations. "Its very nice to meet you all" Rin said slightly bowing her head.

"As well as yourself" Inuyasha responded, Rin smiled back at him then she happened to glance up at the older brother Sesshomaru. She had noticed his lack of engagement and emotion, it seemed that he hadn't even acknowledged their whole conversation. Sesshomaru stood idly, looking only toward the street. Sesshomaru had regarded the fact that she was staring at him from the beginning and was simply ignoring the girl. Feeling he had no other choice Sesshomaru returned her stare, which surprised Rin forcing her to turn away a bit flustered.

Oh my goodness how long was I staring at him? Great now he probably thinks I'm some kind of obsessed creep..or something. Perhaps Sesshomaru did think she was a creep, but Rin's thoughts were exaggerated at the very least. I wish I could've gotten a better look at him. He's so attractive yet intimidating. Rin's thoughts were abruptly interrupted by the sound of the approaching bus, slowing down to pick up the four. Rin was the first to enter, followed by Kikyou, Inuyasha, and last Sesshomaru.
