A/N: I know this doesn't go along with the book series, but I wrote this before I found out about them. So, this is my version of how Pitch came to be, hope you enjoy reading. Please comment, like, or even flame if you wish.

Long, long ago, before the man in the moon created the Guardians, there was a man named Ezenbar Black. He was a tall, handsome man that roamed from town to town playing his music that gathered crowds from all over. He would play and play until he could do so no more. His beautiful music eventually gained the attention of The Man in the Moon, who would watch silently from the murky skies.

Years passed until one day Ezenbar grew ill and could not be risen from his bed. Soon he was no more than a shadow of the man he once was, this broke his heart. Then finally, he died one cold, winter day.

The Man in the Moon took pity on the young musician and soon after his death he was reborn. At first Ezenbar was invisible to everyone, something he did not understand. All he knew is was his name, and how to play the instrument that he had been carrying since his birth. For years the man traveled the world seeing everything, but remaining unseen to the people around. Eventually someone came to believe in him, her name was Eliza.

The girl had long blonde hair that would cascade down her back when she ran, and big blue eyes that would sparkle in the sun. When Ezenbar would appear and play his beautiful music she would laugh and dance around him in sweeping circles. Soon, Ezenbar was spending everyday playing for the young girl anywhere she went.

Then one rainy day, Eliza was arrested by the king's men and thrown into the jails. Ezenbar would sit with the girl and hold her hand or play his music to try and lift her spirits. After a few days of tense waiting the king's men finally returned for the young girl. The soldiers drug her from the cell and brought her before the gallows on charges of witchcraft. Eliza was hung to the tune of a mournful song that only she could hear.

Enraged by the death of his beloved Eliza, Ezenbar turned his wrath onto the men responsible. He came upon the men in their sleep and preyed upon the dreams they dreamt. At first he despised the Nightmares he created and cast them away as soon as morning came. But soon after he started these attacks the Nightmares stopped disappearing and began to linger, always following Ezenbar.

Fearing the evil he created Ezenbar fled in a desperate attempt to escape the monsters that hounded him. At first he was able to evade his creations, but as time went on the Nightmares grew stronger.

Finally the young musician was cornered by his creations and consumed by his fears. All that was good was eaten away until all that remained was darkness, and from that the man known as Pitch was born. Unlike Ezenbar, this man was cruel and enjoyed the torture his victims went through. Soon the Man in the Moon knew that all the good was gone from Ezenbar, so he went about creating the Guardians to protect the children.

When the four Guardians were born, everyone stopped believing in Pitch. Weakened by the loss of power, the King of Nightmares fled deep into his lair where he remained in solitude. It is these times of weakness that Ezenbar returns to try and reclaim his life.

So, if one night you hear the most beautiful music in the world instead of having nightmare, then you know that Ezenbar Pitch has returned.
