I couldn't remember a time when I wasn't alone. Though technically to others I was alone for the most part since I lived in the middle of nowhere with only my parents for company, they were the only real people I knew, real as in flesh and bone real, they were alive. Even when I was with my parents they were there in the background, talking to me, telling me stories and playing games with me as a child. I knew I wasn't crazy because my father could see them too. It is a rare gift he would always tell me, it made me unique, special. Father told me that my power comes from the blood of my ancestors passed down the family line from parent to child. Though there were never many of us who had the gift now there was only my father, a cousin I'd never met before, and myself who have this gift. My father's brother, my uncle, died in a car crash years ago along with his wife and unbeknownst to my father, leaving my younger cousin in the hands of my uncle's old boss, a toad of a vampire called Tony. By the time my father found out about her it was too late and he could only hope she was smart enough to keep her gift a secret and out of Tony's greedy hands.
Years before I was born when it was just my father and uncle, my uncle revealed his gift so he could work for Tony though he thankfully didn't mention that his older brother also had the gift and to a more powerful extent. Whereas my uncle could see ghosts, talk to them and for a short time even manage to influence them long enough to gather information for Tony that would've been impossible to gather because the secret would have died with the person when their life ended if not for his gift, which was basically my uncle's main job in Tony's household to gather sought after information from the dead.
Nobody could say that what my uncle could do wasn't amazing but it was merely a parlour trick compared to my fathers ability. Both brothers could see and communicate with ghosts, though my father could influence them, control them for hours though it would still exhaust him. My father's record for influencing ghosts was up to 6 at a time for a time of 6 and a half hours straight. Both brothers also had a type of guardian a ghost that had decided to stick around and live a life through them but who could also act as your most trusted advisor and a spy that only you could see, and by borrowing some energy the ghost could briefly possess some people whose shields are weak enough to get through, again though both the brothers could do this it took energy to maintain the possession for a period of time so it was no surprise that my father could bypass shields more easily and hold the possession longer than brother.
It was a surprise indeed though when my father admitted that I was most likely more powerful than my father and uncle's abilities combined. If I remain strong and in control of my abilities I could one day be strong enough to summon ghosts by thought alone, and even have the power to command a ghost army. I could also use multiple ghost possessions and by leaving a trusted spirit in my body I could possess someone myself and all this and possibly more was mine to use at will.
I knew all this by my 10th birthday, but my world changed drastically when I hit puberty at age 12 and the secret my mother had been trying to keep from not just me but my father as well, that she'd hoped I'd never inherit and she was sure she was in the safe zone when I inherited my father's ability but she was wrong.
