I lay in my cold bed, trying to block out the sound of my mother's cries so I could sleep.
"Please don't!" she cried.
I heard him hit her and push her to the floor. It wasn't right for him treat us like this, but Moroi come first. Stupid motto, He needed a taste of his own medicine. I sat up and got out of bed. This had to stop.
"Where are you going Dimka?" asked my sister, sleepily.
"I'm going to make things right" I told her, "just go back to sleep."
I quietly opened the bedroom door and peaked out. I watched him hit my mother again. She was crying. Full of anger and hate I walked right up to my father and punched him.
"How dare you!" he shouted at me
"Go back to bed Dimitri" pleaded my mother.
My father tried to hit me, but I was too fast. True, he was taller and older than me, but I was still faster and stronger than him. I managed to hit him again and again. My mother kept telling me to go to bed, but I couldn't let him treat us like this anymore.
"Leave!" I shouted at him, "And don't ever come back!"
His nose was bleeding, and I could tell he would have a black eye in the morning. It was obvious I'd won, so he moved closer to the door.
"Your mother is a worthless bloodwhore, that's all the women in your family will ever live up to." he spat at me.
I glared at him as he opened the door and left, I turned back to my mother,
"I promise I will never let him hurt you again. I promise to always protect the people I love."
I awoke with the sun in my eyes. The light was flooding into my small room. I cursed at the sun in Russian, then immediately took it back. It was a miracle I was even able to look at the sunlight now. I stood up and opened the window; the sun was high in the sky which meant it was the middle of the night for the nocturnal moroi society. It also meant no one would be around. I walked over to the door and knocked on it. A guardian opened it from the other side.
"What is it?" he asked.
"I wanted to go for a little walk - to the church maybe?" He closed the door and I heard him and the other guardian discuss the matter if letting me out. After a few minutes the other guardian opened the door and gestured fit me to come out.
"Just a short walk" he told me.
I sat on a garden bench baked in sunlight. I was looking at the church. They say God forgives everyone, for any sin. But I could never be forgiven for the crimes I'd committed as a strigoi. I hadn't realised what I was doing, but I had traced the word 'Роза' in the dirt.
"Roza," I sighed.
I could never be with Rose, I'd hurt her too much; I didn't deserve her forgiveness. I'd also broken my promise, the promise I held deep to my heart. I couldn't protect Rose. I sighed again. Rose had been arrested and she was going to be found guilty and killed. She had no chance, even though I knew she was innocent. I hoped Abe would be able to save her, but even he couldn't pull that many strings.
"That's all the time who have now," said the first guardian, "We have to take you back inside."
I stood up and let them lead me back to my room.
Sorry it was short and kinda lame, hopefully it will get better. I've been feeling kinda dead with my other story 'Choices' And I hope i'll be able to continue it. I don't know how long this one will be because it was primarily just a short one to refresh my dead brain.
