A/N: Just a little something I thought up during class. My head is going all over the place, and after I get over my flighty writer's block, I'll update. Enjoy!
He was burly, tough, murderous, bloodthirsty. His icy blue eyes tracked down their target rapidly, and he was able to take them down swiftly and effectively. Cato was a killer.
But at the same time, he was tall, blonde, and his dry humor could get anyone to crack. You just needed to him like I did.
I'm Clove, by the way. You know, the one with the knives? Yeah, that girl.
Cato and I were sitting in our train, heading from District Two straight to the Capitol. The reaping was a rather exciting event, after I was reaped. Our escort straight from the Capitol, Scipio, drew a slip of paper for the boys, calling a pathetic looking boy named Drewward (what a name, I know) up to the stage. He barely passed five-foot-one, and could easily be taken down with the absolute worst of my knives.
He would never make it, I thought, glaring at the shaking boy next to me. Drewward read my thoughts almost instantaneously, choking back a sob.
"Are there any volunteers?" Scipio said in his awkward Capitol accent. He rustled his pink-yes, pink-hair as a eruption of deep voices emerged from the corral of boys.
"Over here, Skippy!"
"Pick me, pea brain!"
"Me! Me!"
These guys were desperate to be chosen. Scipio looked frazzled, and turned his lanky, white-suited self to me.
"How about you, doll. You haven said a word since I drew your name!"
All right. I glanced through the crowd of jumping teenagers when I saw him. Cato Leespice.
Unmoving, arms crossed. And he was staring at me in the eye. I knew at once.
"How about, Cato?" I said to Scipio. Drewward next to me sighed in relief as the six-foot-two seventeen year old eagerly bounded up the stage, shoving Drew behind him.
Cato shook my hand firmly, saying, "Good choice."
Scipio directed the attention back to him. "At last, Cato Leespice and Clove Vine, our District Two tributes! A hearty round of applause followed as Cato and I were rushed off of the grand stage and into the Justice Building.
