AUTHOR'S NOTE: My friend EK gave me the prompt "Aizawa on a day off." This was the quick result.
Shota Aizawa lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling and watching the shifting patterns of dappled shadows from the trees outside his window. Enjoying a rare day off with no papers to grade, no meetings to attend, no chores to do that couldn't wait until later, all he wanted to do was relax.
Which, of course, meant his cell phone started ringing.
Picking it up, he saw that it was Present Mic, and without thinking, he answered it.
"YO!"
"Day off." With that, he unceremoniously hung up on the other hero and tossed the phone into a corner of his otherwise empty bedroom. With a yawn, he rolled onto his side, fully intending to go back to sleep.
At least until he heard a familiar scratching at his balcony door.
"Damn it," he groaned, covering his head with the pillow, but even after five minutes, the insistent scratching eventually drove him out of bed and into his small kitchen. Pouring some dry cat food into a cracked bowl, he grumbled his way to the sliding door and stared balefully down at the tabby that was staring back at him just as balefully through the glass. Ever since he'd rescued the tabby from getting stuck in a garbage can in his alleyway, the cat had figured out how to climb the tree outside his apartment and leap onto his balcony.
"You're a real pain, you know that?" He slid open the door and put the bowl down just outside the door, but as he went to close it again, the tabby came inside, turned around, sat down on Aizawa's feet, and then began eating. "Yeah, you know, all right." The cat ignored him and went on eating, and he sighed as he reached down to scratch it behind the ears.
Eventually, it finished eating, meowed at him, and started swatting at his scarf. "Cut it out. I didn't shell out for carbon fiber and steel alloy just for you to use it as a plaything." The cat kept batting at it, so for a while, he played with the cat on the balcony, then the tabby leapt back over to the tree and swarmed its way back down. Aizawa found himself smiling, then he slid the door closed and went back to bed.
Picking up his cell phone, he saw a text message from Present Mic.
DON'T FORGET TO FEED THE CAT, YO. HUNGRY KITTY IS ALMOST AS GRUMPY AS YOU ARE.
"Asshole," he grumbled. Curling up with the pillow, and pulling the covers over his head, he drifted back to sleep, still smiling.
