The Guards' Count had been a joke for years. It was a list of how many time any person was arrested or put in the cells. The names on the list were chosen for the person and then the name was spread amongst the other guards during dice games.
The Prince's nickname was the puppy and he had one of the highest counts, 32 times. These included an accidental time he was locked in by Morgana when they were children, the time the prince cried at an execution, and the time the prince disobeyed his father and saved his servant's life. Hopefully no more entries would be added for him.
The Lady Morgana's name was Princess, unoriginal, but Leon chose it, so it stuck. She had been locked up 13 times. The last time was just after her servant's father was killed. The lady would never be locked up down here again. She would be executed for being the witch she is.
Gaius, the wiseman, had five entries, none were right. The old man hadn't done anything wrong any of those times. He was the second most liked prisoner they ever had to lock up.
Even the Tyrant, King Uther, had two entries. Once was when he had been enchanted and had tried to kill his son as an infant. The other time was when the man had lost his kingdom to his daughter and the witch Morgause. The king was never fully whole after that time.
The person with the most listings was also the most liked one. The man was called the Unicorn. He was so pure and honest. He always looked at the world in the best light. Even when he wasn't down here as a prisoner, he would show up with food or something else just as wanted.
He was also the only prisoner to have escaped from every single cell, not something the king or prince needed to know. The boy was a wonder, over 200 stays. He also never escaped when Arthur sent him. If that happened, he stayed put and did his time. He was the most loyal servant they had ever seen.
He had been locked up his first day in the city. He had been locked up for many crimes that he had clearly not committed. The time they remembered most was the time Adrian had accused him of sorcery. He was the only person they had seen offer to stay longer, just so Gaius would be spared Adrian's 'methods'. Sadly, the old man and the boy had suffered from that stay.
There was another reason for the codename 'Unicorn'. The boy seemed to have a sixth sense. In fact, the boy was said to have been the reason that the prince had shot the actual Unicorn all those years ago. The boy looked as if he had been the one shot. That was why all of the guard in the castle loved Merlin. He had a beautiful heart.
