So, new story. Just trying to get back into writing hopefully I'll update my other stories soon.

Disclaimer: I do not own Twilight or its characters.

3rd Person POV

The children laughed as they raced around the yard, tumbling in and out of snowdrifts. One of the girls in particular was busy making a little fort out of snow. "What are you doing Isabella?" One of the little boys asked her.

She scowled up at him for distracting her, "I'm building a fort Emmett."

He looked confused, "Why?"

She started reinforcing one of her walls, "Because."

"Because why?"

"Because I am, that's why!" She glared at him and turned back to her work smiling. "I'm making this fort so that no one can get in. And if no one can get in, then I don't get wet. And if I don't get wet then I don't get sick." She said it in a no nonsense tone.

"Oh," Emmett was quiet for a moment. "Isabella?" He started getting excited, "You know what we could do? We could use this fort to throw snowballs at the others and then they couldn't get at us!" He thought about it for a second, "YEAH! Wouldn't that be fun?"

Seven year old Isabella looked up at nine year old Emmet, "Emmett," she said seriously, "I don't think you'll fit."

"Whatever! I can always fit!" And with that he tried to sit down next to her inside the fort and smashed one of the walls.

"Emmett!" Isabella yelled, "You ruined it!" She glared at him then went running off into the house. Minutes later, Emmett's mother came to the door and gave 'the look'. The one that says, 'Boy, you're in so much trouble just wait till we get home.' He struggled to look chastised and then poked his tongue out at Bella who was peeking out the door. She smiled at him and he ran off to play with the other children.

Bella sat in her father's lap for the rest of the afternoon, watching the other children play happily outside. When it came time to leave, Bella hesitantly hugged everyone and the adults all smiled at her an Emmett glared. She went up to him, "I'm sorry." She said looking down at the floor.

His face broke into a huge grin, "It's all right Isabella, next time we'll make a fort as big as this house!" He spun her around laughing. She watched sadly as the house disappeared into the distance. Her parents were talking quietly in the front seat and as she stared out the window she caught a flash of something. Suddenly, she was very afraid for her friends.

"Daddy!" She yelled, "We need to go back, I have to check something!"

Her dad just laughed, "You'll see them next year Isabella. Let's get home and have some hot chocolate and put you to bed hmm?" Her mom smiled at her in the rear view mirror and her dad kept talking about all the fun things they had at home. She listened, but the sick feeling never left her and she didn't see them again for a long, long time.
