Prologue
"And one more time, our star Bernard Swan doesn't seem able to play a good return."
"Yeah, it's not the first time we notice that. Anyway, his performance is not the same anymore."
"Wait, what is going on? Did he leave the game?!"
"Is he leaving the court?"
"Oh my God!" Eric Young, one of the most famous sport commentator in the Tennis World, was speechless as every single person watching the match was.
Bernard had fainted.
"Bells? Bells? Are you there?" Daddy's voice took me out from my memories.
"Yeah, on my bed."
"Are you not coming with us, sweetheart?"
"Nah," I took a deep breath, looking at his shadow on the wall.
"I thought it was important for you," his voice sounded completely sad.
"My plans have changed," I said with no emotion.
"It has been months, Bells. You need to…"
"No Charlie," I sat down on my bed, and I finally made eye contact with my Daddy, "I don't need anything."
"Ok." And he left.
I knew it has been hard for all of us, but nobody else was like me. Renée went back to work as Charlie did. They got their social life back; their friends; their every-Friday-night-dinner; their smile on their faces; their duties as citizens; but I didn't.
I was not able to get back.
Not now.
Bernard had left us, and he took my life with him.
Forever.
