Lily was sitting in the common room, busy studying for a Transfiguration exam. Professor McGonagall had hinted that it would be rough and Lily wanted to make sure that she was well prepared for it. She was so engrossed in her study that she didn't even look up as the clock chimed midnight. A few moments later, however, Lily whipped her head up as a sudden bang filled the room.
She looked around for the cause of the disturbance and found a pile of library books had somehow fallen from one of the tables. Sighing, Lily got up, picked the books off of the floor, and put them back on the table. As she returned to her notes she found a folded piece of parchment lying on top. It was folded in the shape of a lily and on one of the leaves it read, To My Lovely Lily. Cautiously looking around, Lily unfolded the parchment and read:
I have watched you from a far
Learning how truly lovely you are
Your kindness and caring that I admire
So full of passion and of fire
You inspire me to do great things
I feel like it has given me wings
To express my feelings for you
Is something I cannot easily do.
For every time I see your lovely face
Poised and elegant, so full of grace
Taking my very breath away
And leaving me with precious little to say
Your beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green
Like a beautiful fairy queen
Your smile is like a breath of spring
That makes my heart want to sing
Your voice is soft like summer rain
That it should not be contained
And no one can compete with you
For they would all horribly lose
You could have your choice of men
But without you I will never love again
You're the only one for me
To my heart you hold the only key
I had to write this poem for you
For my happiness depends on you
And whatever you decide to do
Meet me at the top most tower
At this very hour
Tomorrow night, under the stars so bright
I will give you my heart, to you it truly belongs
Your faithful admirer Prongs.
Lily read the poem over and over again, debating on what she should do. It wouldn't do for the Head Girl to be caught out of bed after hours. If she didn't go, though, she would regret it. She would never know who Prongs was and she wouldn't't be able to thank him properly for the wonderful poem. Out of habit, Lily made a mental list of the pros and cons of going and of not going. After about twenty minutes, Lily decided that she would go. After all what's life without a little risk?
"I'll be there Prongs," she announced to the empty common room as she, rather happily, gathered up her notes and headed of to bed.
Little did she know that Prongs sat, invisible in the a corner of the common room. He had hung around after delivering his note, hoping that he would hear her response. As he watched her ascend the stairs to the girl's dormitory he couldn't help but grin like an idiot as he jumped the stair two at a time up to his own dormitory.
The moment I heard the song Jolene, I knew that it would be a great song to do an HP oneshot. I hope that you guy enjoy it and much as I have. This is my first dip into the world of Harry Potter fanfiction so please be kind :)
