Blighted

How foolish Richard has been, not to realize that the solution to his problems has been so close to him all the time. How ridiculous to have been warned off by the croakings of a gloomy old man. Oh, Jarndyce is a dear old chap, and all that. Probably he can't help being a little warped at his time of life, especially with all the failure he's seen before this.

Why, if Richard attacks the case now, with his youth and vigor, he'll be able to provide for Jarndyce himself—and for Esther, and for his dear Ada above all. There will be plenty to go around.

All he has to do is put out his hand and grasp it.
